By the way the Viper registry build info list's the last retail vin# for a 99GTS is XV503946, I must have purchased a stolen one, my vin# for my 99GTS is XV503979.
98viperGTS is correct, the VIN's are not produced in sequence. Also note that the VCA doesn't own or run the Viper registry, so we can't account for any possible discrepancies (although it has always seemed very accurate to me).
I guess just owning a Viper anymore doesn't really give you much on this board.
Interesting commentary. You seem to have participated in your fair share of posts and hopefully picked up some pointers along the way.
Free of charge, of course. What you
haven't done is volunteer any of your time to help support the club that runs the site, nor offered a single penny to help keep it running. Last year the site cost over
$20,000 to maintain, host, and modify. Given the upgrades so far in 2007, it will cost even more this year. And that does not include the
thousands of hours donated by our site administration, moderators, etc. They don't get a single penny for that work.
So if we happen to share the same last name, does that mean you can come into my house anytime you like, eat our food, watch TV, and then leave when you feel like it? Or do you think that maybe, just maybe, if you offered to clean the dishes or pay for a meal it would a little more acceptable? There are thousands of Viper owners that help support the club and this site simply by being members. And there are thousands of others that expect the exact same rights and privileges but won't even cough up a measly $100 to help support it. So which group should we favor?
It's funny, because many of the other popular car forums besides this one charge for "premium" memberships - otherwise you can't upload a SINGLE picture, have more than 50 private messages, etc. Cost? Usually around $30 a year. And many of those same sites are inundated with ads on every post, hypertext links in the posts themselves (obnoxious), and all kinds of other clutter. And they don't need to send a single magazine or newsletter, host an event, help interface with the manufacturer, or support an actual car club with thousands of active members. They just take your money and allow you picture hosting privileges and more private messages. Oh boy.
Mind you, VCA membership nor a penny of contribution is required to participate here. You can post almost anywhere and **** up all the great information you like without lifting a finger or dropping a nickel to do so. But let's assume the site offers a
value to you as a Viper owner. Then add all the other VCA membership stuff that is offered - VIPER magazine subscription, $1,000,000 liability policy at VCA events, gifts, membership cards, newsletters, regional events, vendor discounts, exclusive raffles, etc., etc. Why is paying for it that difficult? As a Viper owner do you get everything (or anything) else for free? There are hundreds of thousands of people that would LOVE to be in your position and be a Viper owner - and would happily support the club that brings them all together.
Whew! Off of my soapbox. The bottom line is that many, many people sacrifice a HUGE amount of time to make this site what it is. All but the programmers and server host do it for absolutely
nothing in return. Rest assured that the $100 is a lot easier!
And one last note to those loyal vendors like JonB that tirelessly support the club as well through sponsorships, donations, and member discounts:
Thanks a ton!
