Before the driving events began at VOI, we were told that we would be ranked on standings in quarter mile and autocross. We would be classified by GEN and upgrades. (A lot of work - thank you to the volunteers.) How can I look up those results.

i was extreamly disappointing in the drag strip, watching everyones viper run 13s was disappointing since there was zero traction.

FYI, you can't look them up as they don't exist for the entire group. Petty did record the fastest times so that we could present awards at the Saturday night dinner to the top couple of drivers in each class including an award for the fastest SRT driver on the Auto X. I was handed a list of the fastest guys and announced the winners.

As to track conditions at the drags, they weren't ideal but there were a few low 10 second passes recorded on Friday at the drags, so track conditions weren't too bad. Launching a Viper can be challenging and takes a bunch of practice. It's very easy to blow the tires off of the car with an aggressive launch and then get a lousy 1/4 mile time.

I did see a few SRT cars run 12.80s and most Vipers could not match this elapsed time.

Saturday morning was mostly a rainout at the drags and at the early Auto X groups. Sunday was much better.

See you at the track,

Dan

I loved the autocross, however if I can help next VOI get times posted and groups identified in advance as to what is stock, modified and unlimited, I'd be happy to volunteer some late night hours. I also hope a "women's" category will return.

Regards,
Aaron

Unless my mind is failing me, it was stated that the quickest drag times would be recognized along with the quickest autocross times. During the time that the autocross times were talked about on stage there was nothing said about the drag times that I can recall. Maybe it was presented at a different time and I missed it, maybe I was talkinhg to someone and missed it. I'm not complaining here just presenting the facts as I remember them. For the record I ran against another Gen II car that ran an 11.13 at 138.30 and my 98 with only headers and exhaust ran a 12.50 at 118.00. That was my best that day, I ran 4 times and realized it would be very difficult to do much better with the track conditions. And yes I've been quicker on a better prepared track with the same mph.

However I do know 1 thing for sure and that is my wife and I had the most fun that we've had for quite some time!!

The track was horrible. I squeezed out a 10 and was spinning in every gear. I have run 9's at that track no problem, and the prep just wasn't there. I was running with my boost controller off and just hitting the wastegates, and wasn't even that concerned because having more power wsn't going to help any.

Drag Racers are like red headed step children for most of the Viper community is seems. No awards were given out. Nothing was ever acknowledged. That weekend Sal became the fastest IRS car in the world, no mention. There were way more people that have seen Sal's car all over the place than have seen a NARRA event. I don't really understand why it is treated like this.

I think that was my 99 you were running against. Friday, correct? My best time was in the high 10's. The fastest out there was Tony Armour at a 9.9x @ 152 I think. Track prep sucked and I was very disappointed that we could use all the lanes. It would have been a lot of fun to see 4 wide running down the track............:(

You didn't get to run 4 wide? That was one of the big pitches I kept hearing over and over again leading up to VOI.

We were told by the track officials that timing was not working for the two right lanes. We too anticipated that we could run "four wide".

We were told we would be running four wide even in the drivers meeting, not to be. How convenient that two lanes timing wasn't working.

I had a blast on Friday. I ran 14 times on the drag and hit 12.192 in my '97 GTS. I had trouble getting traction off the line, but Herb attributed it to having signed my valve covers and the extra horsepower that came with it. :)

Since the weather was so different between the two days and even completely different on Saturday depending on what time you ran, it would have been hard to do any fair comparisons between the groups. You could have posted the best times for Friday as about the only fair comparison. I actually had fun at the autocross on Saturday in the rain as it was a fairly safe way to test the limits of traction in wet conditions. I did get to see Alex from the Illinois region just smoke the autocross before the rains hit on Saturday.

Traction was BRUTAL at the drag strip on Sunday as well. In renting the track was there specified condition that we were supposed to get - because traction and track prep was a fail on the part of the track. The roval was totally awesome and the only way it could have been better was if they allowed at least 3 laps per run.

What was your mph on the quickest pass?

I don't remember my MPH because I turned in that slip. All my other runs were in the 113/114 range, so I'm guessing it was around there.
