So I have this very annoying buzz sound from under the drivers dash/instrument cluster area at idle when the engine oscillates. I can confirm it by hitting the dashboard on the drivers side to reproduce the problem.
How do I take the instrument cluster bezel out? Just clips or anything I should know about. I know it’s probably straight forward but I want to ask before I break anything by accident. I’ve learned from my past mistakes on other cars. Thanks.
I had a very similar thought, thinking it would be straightforward,
before I learned that removing the cluster involved removing what felt like half of the car's damn interior. Without knowing exactly where your issue is it's hard to say exactly how far you need to go, but my guess would be that if you hit the top dash pad and can recreate/stop/change the noise then you probably have to do most of the cluster removal procedure.
My Cliff's Notes of getting the cluster out are:
Strap in for a long ride. It is not fun. Most of the interior parts can't be ordered anymore from mopar and all you can really do is find them off junk/salvage cars, so try your best not to break anything. If you have a GTS, know that the leather tears/chips very easily since it's thin/smooth.
1 - If you have one, use a borescope and look around to see if you can find what's rattling so you know what you actually have to get to. Ironically there's tons of room to look around back there with ease, it's just a major undertaking to get it all off.
2 - Pull off the storage box above the center console between the seats, remove the pieces around the oh shit handle on the center console, slide the entire center console backward/up after removing the screws that mount in a dumb way. (be careful)
3 - Remove the infotainment surround and defrost grille on the center of the dash
4 - Remove the drivers side sill and weather stripping to be able to remove the lower panel under the steering column
5 - Remove the top dash pad, which requires removing the speaker if you have one
6 - Remove cluster
There's no great way I can think of for me to upload parts/pieces of the service manual but it does have everything detailed that you have to do and may be worth the investment to pick one up on CD. I ripped the disc to my PC and use MS Edge in Internet Explorer mode to view it since it's a nested webpage. I could not find any videos that show anything beyond the infotainment removal procedure, but that one I found
