Random High Idle / Sticking Idle - <master thread>

Yep - mechanical fixes are a critical part of debugging this problem. When I discovered the weak return spring issue quite a while back, a couple people replied that it was exactly their problem. Thankfully I had 3.73 gears at the time so I had only gone partially crazy :) . The fix was obvious...

If Idle Hang were a person.......

Check out my post a while back - it lists everything I found on threads (and tested myself) and the combination that worked for me (strong return spring + IAC blockage). I have not had a single issue since

    More idle hang info

Glad this helped - it had driven me nuts for over two years and was so hard to detect because people usually test by blipping the throttle which allows enough inertia to close everything up properly I ended up just using needle-nose pliers to pull 1/2 of the dual spring up to catch on a notch a...

    More idle hang info

I left the dowel in - it does seem to kick down a bit faster with it, though by the time I fixed the spring, things were working so well that I didn't go back and seriously verify. I have stock throttle bodies that the previous had honed smoothe The bad spring basically was strong enough to...

    More idle hang info

I finally got tired of trying to drive in traffic with a 1700rpm idle and decided to get serious about fixing it. After reading all the threads, I found out the problem was something that no one has mentioned - weak throttle return springs! Things I tried first: 1) reset PCM - no noticeable...

    Power windows

The plastic rail insert could have slipped out. They are poorly attached by staples and my passenger rail gave way last year. I had to epoxy it back in (don't use too much!) and everything seems fine now

How to determine if CAT is clogged

I was going to check the backpressure at the o2 holes, but I went to Speed Merchant (the only knowledgeable part store I've found so far) and they didn't have anything that would mount - I was told by a mechanic that I need to check while under driving load and it should be < 3 psi

How to determine if CAT is clogged

Before taking my Viper to the shop to determine why it is down 80+ HP, it was suggested that I check the cats. How do I determine if they are clogged and can I get a gross idea w/o having to find an exhaust pressure gauge? I took off the driver side cat and can't find the brand that the...

Dyno Run - Low #s For Current Mods

Thanks - Ted has done quite a bit for me but he didn't have dyno facilities back then - I'll probably have to ping him again soon Ben - driving my car would be like going for a spin in a civic for you - nice looking car, but the throttle won't seem connected. I do have a nice 500HP 428CJ short...

Dyno Run - Low #s For Current Mods

I tracked down the online Mopar catalog and PCM #4848702Ax is for a 97 - 98 is 4854704Ax so this shouldn't be the problem

Dyno Run - Low #s For Current Mods

Thanks for the info! Here is more data 1) I pulled 5 Champion RC12LYC plugs and they are all white and 2 were undergapped at just over .025 instead of .035. I'll put the rest later but it looks like low A/F. A/F at peak HP is 12.4(5500 RPM). The plugs and Mopar wires have about 1000-1500 miles...

Dyno Run - Low #s For Current Mods

If I am comparing correctly, it looks like I am down around 100 hp from similar setups! Can A/F being off by about 1 full point make that much difference? Someone mentioned about possibly blocked cats and I have a pair of open pipe replacements I could try, but that is a bit of work Thanks again...

Dyno Run - Low #s For Current Mods

I finally had my 97 GTS Dyno tested and the #s are low for the mods on the car (most were put on before I bought it). Peak Hp was 418@5500 and torque was 465@3700 with an A/F ratio starting at 13.5-14 @ 2500 and dropping to 12.4 by 5000. These don't seem dramatically improved from stock My...

Folks with 3.73 differential. How do you like it?

Didn't like my 3.73s at all - constant shifting and the only advantage I saw was that I would never hit the shift lockout :) I swapped for 3.45s which work great on my modified car. I can still use 6th on the freeway and there is plenty of pull off the line

saw shifter that I want, Anybody know where to get it?

It looks nice (one came w/ my used Viper), but isn't very comfortable for quick shifts - especially if you have a short shifter. The MGW chrome/rubber ball is much nicer IMHO
