Yesterday while at an instructional school a "professional driving instructor" lost control of my car and ran it into a tire barrier at over 100 mph. The car is definitely totalled and I escaped with only minor neck, rib and back injuries. I desperately want another car this color so anyone who may have info leading to one would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached by e mail or by phone at 410 971 5021. Thanks.

Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I'll be selling mine when my SRT-10 arrives - maybe sooner if the price is right. It's concours clean.

2000 Steel Gray with Silver stripes has Borla Exhaust, Elelbrock Headers, smooth tubes, cat-backs, camera mount, 5 point seat belts, professionally installed hidden strobe light set up front and rear in the head lights and tail lights, added a/m - f/m, CD Alpine Navigation system with pop out wide screen -DVD can also be added to this system - , GT2 /ACR BBS wheels with Michelin Sport Tires and low mileage.

Hey Jason, sorry to hear of your trouble. Hope your feeling better soon.

By the way, what's the word on insurance coverage for this case. Have you heard anything yet?

Thanks guys, this whole thing just makes me sick. Since the crash I've literally had nightmares about it. Not too many people seem to comprehend the bond between a Viper guy and his viper. That car was my most prized posession. I got it with only 300 miles and then some ******* takes it away from me while nearly killing both of us. I may just have to find a brand new car that I like. I know how hard it will be to find a 2000 car with only a couple hundred miles on it. It's kind of funny, the day before going to the course I had the car on the lift putting stock wheels and brake pads on it everyone who saw the undercarriage commented on the fact that even the underside of the front fascia didn't even have one scratch. Oh well, life goes on I guess.

Phil, the insurance company is coming out this week to look at the car. They don't have a problem with the fact that it was wrecked on a race track because I was not in a race. I signed up for a drving safety instructional course. My biggest fear is having them come out and offer me some ridiculously low dollar amount for a car in perfect condition. I'll keep you updated. I'll try to post some pictures soon. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the most for your car from the insurance company?

Dan, no the car wasn't supercharged. It had upgraded cylinder heads and roller rockers, made 490 to the wheels with no exhaust or intake mods. I should also mention that the car I'm looking for must be perfect with extremely low miles. Thanks guys.

Jason asked if any of you know the insurance implications of his car being at a race track in an instructional event. I am wondering if a professional in this field can comment and what about the instructor who took unauthorized liberties with the car and wrecked it? Who should be held accountable? the track, the instructor or both or neither?

Jason,

Really sad to hear, your car was, well, perfect, in every respect. I truly wish you the best with this. It's good to hear that you are pretty much OK, aside from the bumps & psychological trauma. I feel for you. The only advice I can give is I had a low ball insurance quote on a theft / total years ago and the adjuster told me to research and find examples for sale on my own of a similar car that would justify my claim, so I did & they came up. Of course the problem will be finding "like" cars out there that have sold or are for sale for comparison.

Again, all the best.

Dave.

Here's a little insurance tidbit...

SOME companies offer a rider that is called "replacement cost coverage" for CARS. I am sure you all have this rider on your homeowner's policy, but it is available from SOME companies for your beloved Viper.

We have this coverage on ALL our vehicles that are eligible (our insurance company - Fireman's Fund - allows it on cars 5 years old or newer, so the GTS's are not eligible anymore...)

Anyway, when the 2000 model trailer was stolen, we paid our $50 comprehensive deductible and received a brand new 2001 model. Just sent the paperwork (quote from dealer and receipts of the contents) to the adjuster and a check was in our hands within 30 days. No haggling, no "justifying", no dealing with the always popular "fair market value" discussions. We had the trailer from new and wanted a new one - sure - no problem.

Our insurance cost is not outrageous (was around $1K per year for each Viper with no restrictions and $500 collision deductible and max liability coverages) but the piece of mind is priceless. This is worth asking about - it was WONDERFUL not having to haggle and only having to deal with the nuisance of getting a new trailer in time for Mid Ohio last year. CALL YOUR AGENT NOW!

Jason - I really hope you can find a car in the right color combo - that is a VERY nice color - nicer than the 2002 color *** the stripes are CRITICAL.... Both Bill Pemberton and Jon Brobst have helped folks get what they deserved from their insurance companies - they should be able to help you, too. Please keep us posted.

Jason, sorry to hear about your GTS. At least you walked away from the crash mostly unharmed. That guy sounds like he was a bozo to be driving your car that way! Good luck and greetings from NM give me a call. Kenric

Hang in there Jason, another one will be found! Do I remember Chuck Tator having a new ACR like this left over, or it might have been graphite, but I know it had stripes. It's worth a call. and of course Obi Wan himself, Bill Pemberton would go to work for you, he could find one if he doesn't have one in stock. As a matter of fact I was just telling him about you a few weeks back, I was telling him...He's our local midatlantic tuner, just as good as Hennessy but he lives here, etc. I bet he would love to talk to you! I think Jon B. may be the worlds best expert on how to deal with the insurance guys, you might want to give him a call, and of course he might be the best salvage (donor) buyer. See you Saturday!

Call John Gastman at Roanoke Motors in Central Illinois at 1-800-541-6858. He has a 2002 Graphite/Silver Stripe in stock and recently took in a low mileage 2000 Steel/Silver on a trade. They ship all over the country. You won't be sorry.

I would like to thank all of you for the outpouring of support.
I called Joe Maggio and I will indeed be buying the 2000 steel grey with silver striped ACR from him. I can't express how lucky I feel to be a part of this club and to find another car of my dreams still in a showroom, brand new none the less. I would expect that I should have a new Viper in my garage within three weeks. While I will always mourn the loss of my first Viper, I can't explain how anxious I am to get my new car. My thanks go out to all of you, I'll see some of you Saturday at the tech session.

Wow, Jason. I just caught this, glad you are ok after that.
Also pleased that you found exactly what you are looking for so quickly, thanks to all the great people here!
I have seen other posts here that talk of JonB/PartsRack and Bill Pemberton/Woodhouse, etc as people who can offer expertise in dealing with insurance settlements, getting true value, etc.

Hope to see you Saturday morning at the March 9
Va/Md tech and dyno day at your shop, Heffner's Performance, Glen Burnie.
and that you're not too banged up still! If you need a Viper
fix, just call.. anytime.

Probably none of our business, but did the insurance take care of 100% of it? Always curious as how the ins. co.'s treat Vipers..

Youre gonna laugh when you hear this. The insuracnce company came out and wrote an estimate for pulling the frame, repairing the hood, blending the paint on the bumper, repairing the fascia, repairing the door that came to a whopping thirteen thousand dollars. They are crazy. The fact of the matter is that the driving school responsible will be the one buying a new car. If they want to fix it I'm sure it'll look very nice in their garage.

the fact of the matter is that i hope you have in writing that the school will be reambursing you for your crashed car. otherwise you will end up with 13k worth of repairs viper. make no mistake, it will get fixed, but it will never be the same...

hope you have all legal aspects covered to your satisfaction..
