How many of you \"use\" your wife or girlfriend?

I always chuckle when I read that you made your wife do things to help you out on your Viper. Like watching for bubbles when you burp your system or hold sockets. How many of you are guilty of this behavior? (Resting a beer can on her head while she holds the hood of your car)?

Just a funny thought...I had.

My wife has no interest in cars beyond basic transportation, and the only thing LESS interesting than having to take care of her car, is doing anything related to my cars.

She not only doesn't understand why I put so much effort (and expense) into the car, she is genuinely puzzled why other people are so smitten with the Viper as well.

So the best that I get is the freedom to do what I like, within reason (which I gladly welcome), and she does bring out Coffee, soda, and munchies when my friend/mechanic and I are working on the Viper.

But no hands-on help, beyond putting the car cover on.

I use my Gfriend to hide my car keys every couple of days. This way I continuiously look like an idiot and she looks like she got her **** together...

Jennifer gets all into it.. she's helped me remove a transaxle before, she's changed her own oil... and i'm teaching her basic engine theory (slowly). She loves working with me in the garage on stuff... she wants to do a streetrod soon.

Seeing as my wife retired over a year ago and the car is half hers--she has very willingly done most of the cleaning(inside and out) on the car the past 2 summers.She also takes care of most of the washing of the other vehicles as well. Nothing mechanical though.

The wife won't do it so I get the kids to help. My 15 year old boy and 13 year old girl are a GREAT pit crew. They do all the pre-race prep on the car with the exception of backing it out of the trailer! They will even help when I'm doing brakes etc. .

Kind of like my own "Arrive and Drive" program. Only problem is week day racing.

That is awesome RC! I have the local kids here wash an wax my car under my supervision. They love to do it and I flip them some money. They enjoy being around the car and probobly are more attention to detail than I am. And I am very detailed! The small hands they have are great for getting inside the wheels and wheel well.

My wife is "usually" very good about helping...But she reserves the right to be moody and demand back rubs and teh such in return for her help...

Just last night I had to promise a back rub for her helping me burp the cooling system...

But the best story was from BEFORE we were married...For some reason I had to R&R the heavy duty 4 speed tranny on my Cuda. I did it with her help crawling under the car, supporting the tranny on a basic floor jack (with some precautions, but not real smart)...We got is done. It was 2 weeks before the wedding...She remarked afterward how dumb she was doing it, had she broken a nail or got some hand/arm cut, it would not have reflected well in the wedding pics!!!

When it gets serious, I remind her of her new ML320 I bought her...That gets her attention...

My girlfriend helps out. But it's more along the lines of taking it to the dealer for servicing, taking it by the paint shop for estimates, taking it out for a spin and washing it up, etc... because I'm working late.

My Girlfriend, is the Crew chief on our Race Team, she has to do alot of work with the Viper. She's also one of the stunt riders in Sune Andersson Motorcycle Stunt performance show. She ROCKS!(www.mcstunt.com)

My wife has road in my RT/10 twice in 6 years.
I kinda screwed it up when I got her pregnant 3 times in 5 years.
But she is a doll when it comes to helping out.
She brings me towels, cleaning supplies and BEER.
Oh and she has helped me sync my Plenum's (what a Babe)!
Oh hi honey! (just in case she sees this).

Anyone ever see the commercial where the guy has a VW and he is all excited about how the windows go up (or down) by themselves so he calls his wife outside to watch what happens when he hits the button on the key remote? In the next scene, he is outside doing the demonstration and when he turns proudly to look at his wife sharing in his excitement, all he sees is the front door of the house slammin shut because his wife was pissed that he wasted her time with such a stupid thing.

That's my wife.

My wife will help if really pressured. She helped me replace the transfer case in my Chevy truck (operated the jack to raise it into position) and helped with bleeding the brakes. She doesn't like helping with the Viper as I think she sees it as her competition!

Sometimes when I am working in the garage, and she asks me if there is anything I need, I ask her to hold my tool.

If she holds my tool, I can manuever better, and the job goes that much more smoothly.

My fiancee does almost all the cleaning on my viper anymore because she thinks i do a crappy job on it when i do it myself!! I guess thats why she is making me get married next month and bring her on a cruise hahaha.
