05 Venom

Hey Guys, Just drove home my red 05 and the car is amazing. I am a first
time Viper owner. Have a couple of questions.
1. Is it O.K. to put the 'breakin in' 500 miles on the car in one day or
should I spread it out over two (LOL)
2. Can I remove the black plastic wind director in the functional air scoop
to allow more air in. (the car will not be driven in rain)
3. I need the name of a few Viper magazines and aftermarket companies to buy
bolts-ons from.

Thanks, Chris

As a new Viper owner, you should be automatically included in the VCA. You will receive their magazines which include vendor information and other links.

Enjoy your car, they are a lot of fun. However be carefull, due to wheelspin, a 1/4 ton of torque, and bump steering, the car can get away from you in a heartbeat.

Also be prepared for klunks, heat, and (worst of all) possible mechanical breakdowns, after all it is a dodge.

Other than that, have fun with it. When it is clicking on all 10 cylinders, it is an absolute eye-catching, kick assin, automobile.

Never miss an opportunity eh Red? :)

Most of the rest of us have been trouble free. So have fun. But, as stated earlier, be careful as you learn the car. Especially on cool/cold tires. 500 lb-ft of torque (rear wheels) can be a handful.

Cris' caution cannot be over-stated. You think you are a good driver...no a great driver...and that aside from the harsh ride that the Viper is "just another American sports car." If you treat it that way, we'll be looking at a salvage title on it in the near future.

Seriously, these things are like having a pit bull...treat it nicely and it might behave itself. Might.

Regarding modifications, there are some no-brainer things that enhance driving experience: the inexpensive skip shift eliminator, the MGW shifter and associated bezel, and the K&N filter system. All could be installed in 30 minutes.

In a few weeks, you may wish to change the rear end to 3.55 or 3.73 (then again you may not). Also, the Corsa Track if you like a manageably louder car (drones with the top up). Also, there is NO heat on the sills after the Corsa Track is installed.

A cheap and effective mod is to replace your side speakers with Polks. They can be had often for $79 a pair.

Get a Valentine 1...I did....er...after the fact. Oh well.

You can change the badging. Get yourself some Zaino products to detail the car (you should do that post haste since clay barring needs to be done right now.)

There are other trim goodies from MGW and Zero Attitude Flight.

From that point forward, things get a bit more pricey. It is a limited production car and does not have the aftermarket that characterizes the other American "sportscar." But then again, you will not find Viper shirts at a Target Superstore.

Welcome aboard, photograph your car and put it in the gallery.

Alice

P.S. Once your car hits 600 miles, it has no residual value whatsoever. Just the way things are. When you get there and want to sell it for...oh...say $18-20k, please let us know. We'll find a buyer for you.

Sign up for a Viper Days event or some kind of driving school, that will be the best "mod" you ever add to the Viper since it will stay with you forever!

Mike:

Sorry, you really messed up your Mamba with that Paxton, endless electrical mods, one-off customizing, etc. I gave you top dollar at $7500 and one of my cats.

Yep, you can remove the black plastic wind deflector in the hood scoop. Mine's been gone for 10,000 + miles.

Welcome
