That is great advice... I need to do this. I have a 90 mile round trip commute daily and is why I haven't taken my car to work. The older I get, the more I try to preserve my cars.
I have had mine about 2 years. Have only driven it about 1100 miles. I still love the car but I just don't seem to have the time to drive it. But I knew when I bought it that between my kids,wife and work my free time is very limited. The winter also hurts my drive time.

If it's sunny and you're not going to pick up a sofa, you can take your Viper. I'm guessing a lot of you have more time than you think

I drive both of mine every chance I get during the season. I thought I would drive the RT/10 less since I bought a GTS, but just the opposite happened. The GTS became the garage queen and the RT/10 has seen more miles this year than ever. This is also the first year I started tracking the RT/10, and that is an experience in itself. I actually drive the RT/10 without worrying anymore. I even took it to Walmart a few times. When I want an exciting change for the weekend, I take the GTS out.
On Monday my Crossfire cracked a rim and blew a tire, so I have been "forced" to drive the RT/10 every day to all my clients. I will actually be sad when my replacement rim and tire arrives next week.
If you don't drive your Viper to work a few times because you're affraid of this or that, then what's the point of driving to work at all? Why work two jobs when it just forces you to sell your Viper that you got the second job for anyways?

I look at it like this. Why have a beautiful wife and never take her out? I paid good money for my car and want to enjoy it as much as I can. I DD it rain or shine and park in the BOONIES every where I go. As far as trying to keep it clean, I wash it every few weeks. Its a blast to DD and would not have it any other way.

Find time to drive it? Sure.. gotta leave the house right? What keys do I grab? More often than not its the Viper. Drive it to work 9/10 times.
I can't afford to have a car like this sit. Didn't buy my 20 year dream to do so.. There will be plenty of sitting under a cover when snow hits the ground. Until then I will enjoy every mile!

I'm with Jon....I drive mine less often and it makes it that much better. I am lucky enough to have few toys so I like to mix it up a bit. I get bored very easily and if I drove the Viper every day, I would want something different really soon. I rather add to the stable when it makes sense.
I also get a lot of satisfaction simply from the 'ownership'. The fact that I have one, in exactly the color combo and with the equipment that I wanted. I definitely don't have to drive it to enjoy it. It makes me happy that it doesn't have a bunch of miles on it.

It's tough to find time if you have kids and work a lot of hours, which I'm sure many here do. I go out for cruises once in a while but really only drive on the track now. I can usually go 1 maybe 2 days a month. I think just driving on the street gets boring because you can't really go fast, not like on the track anyway. I don't see tracking getting boring for me any time soon, and I get to still really enjoy the car for what it was made for, even if its just once a month.
I've only had mine for 10 months and I'm coming up on 13000 miles since I bought it. I don't take it to work cause I have a company truck they pay the gas in. I will take a 60 mile round trip to town just to get a beer I enjoy driving it so much. I have a gorgeous 77 stroker Vette in the garage that I've only put around 200 miles on in the last year. If I'm going to go for a drive, I automatically head for the Viper.

Put over 20.000 kms on in two years of ownership. My biggest problem deciding to take the car out or going for boat ride. Both vehicles are most enjoyable in great weather only!Had three motorcycles as well, downsized to one only so I wouldn't have problem deciding.

Paul this is the way I feel also! I can't imagine looking at my car (really wanting to go for a drive but then I stop myself & say no, if I drive it today its not gonna be as much fun when I drive it 2 days from now, so I'll just wait till then & have MORE Fun) Like you said about a beautiful wife, could you imagine saying we're only gonna sleep together a couple of nights a week because that will make it MORE Special! I don't think so, I think I could probably come up with a reason to sleep with her every night & TRY & Make it Special! I used this comparison because guys are always saying its the same thing when you don't drive these cars & preserving them is the SAME thing as a guy not sleeping with his girlfriend & just saving her for the next guy to have fun with! Well, other than I don't park mine in the boonies or drive it in the rain! Lol!

Agreed. I used to always keep my car locked up, and I wouldn't take it anywhere unless it was a perfect day and I was going to the perfect place, etc etc etc. Finally, I just decided to let go of those worries. That's what I'm paying insurance for. All the things I imagined would happen have not happened. I enjoy my car so much more now.

@OP... I just pick a day/night when the weather looks good and take her out for an hour drive listening to Boston and Bad Company... no need to stop at walmart!
Then I make time for family when I get back. Just 1 hour of me time... It's that simple!

My commute is only 3.5 miles on one 55 mph highway, no lights, no stop signs. Teach college... faculty parking is pretty safe. It gets about equal time with my 130,000+ miles Ford Escape. Take Escape in rain or when I have a night class.

Life is funny in how it has different stages. Stage 1 ("ME" stage), I had an 1989 Daytona Shelby before I was married. Stage 2, marriage, 3 kids = mini van stage, 2 of them. Stage 3, youngest is 18, and in college, back to the "ME" stage, so Viper and 300 SRT are in right now. LOL, coming back from VOI, I said, that could be us in 20 yrs driving a Prius to our winter home in Florida. Thats another stage awaiting us...hopefully !!! Life is short, do what makes you happy while you can enjoy it.

Exactly. The last owner drove 860 miles in 5 years. I don't intend to let that continue. I drive to work, Walmart, lowes, Home Depot... It's a car with insurance. I double park far away. Most people stay clear of it, or they take pictures and videos.
I won't drive on wet days to keep the undercarriage clean, but other than that, I drive it.

I always park as far as possible.
But I've actually had some people park next to me, while leaving a lot of room for clearance, which I can only imagine was to "protect" the car
Like this Dodge Ram for example - notice his right tires are on the line so he's as far as possible, and several sport bikes

Probably shouldn't post the picture of my friend's 1 piece of luggage not fitting in the trunk (we just drove to the airport without closing the trunk - fortunately it's heavy and didn't even need to be tied down)
When I finally purchase my first viper I will literally drive it to my mailbox to check the mail. (mailbox is 40ft from my garage). And I will enjoy it.I'm middle aged and will find absolutely any reason to drive the **** out of my ride. think I'm kidding? Come see me in my hillybilly town driving my Viper to and fro in my driveway.

I drive mine to work and get groceries. I try to drive it as much as possible. I do plan my day around driving the car. If I know I need to pick up lumber after work I know I'm not driving the Viper to work. But, I've only been home about 3 months in the past 2+ years.
