How I see it is that the ACR/SRT/TA, while still being streetcars, can be considered geared toward being more track worthy car. While the GTS with its full upscale leather interior, 18 speaker info-tainment setup etc is definitely the model geared fo the street though it will still kick butt on...
I know about the turbos tq curve but just responding to posters remark about lag Viper being like on 4cyl motors etc. Just look at the Porsche TT motors. But Dodge don't have the funds to do that to a Viper motor so I think SC might be more realistic considering their budget.
I agree. But my initial premise wasn't to turn all Vipers into 1/4 mile dragsters, just to make one model that is more tuned for street driving like the GTS model and put some form of FI on it while leaving more serious track duty to the SRT/TA/ACR etc. Or just as you mentioned Camaro with two...
I understand you saying this with a turbo. But with a SC that wont be the problem. Im sure you have seen the power/tq curve for a ZR1. Its actually a little better than the Vipers if memory serves. BTW with a pair of decent sized turbos would you necessarilly feel lag from an engine this...
Are you saying the P1, La Fer and 918 are also being tested at the LL at VIR? I havent really looked into all the cars that will be featured. This was going to be my first magazine purchase in about 9-ish years anyway because of the TA. This would make it even better.
Good points. I would love turbo's as well but I dont know if Fiat would release the money/resources to do this yet if ever. And even if they did I wonder what they would ask for the price of entry? How much would one be willing to pay for a factory FI Viper?
SC is probably the more cost...
I think NB with "DR's" went just as fast ET and mph-wise as the Hellcat in the 1/4 mile. So it appears they are both equally as fast with DR's at least up to a 1/4 mile. I suspect as the mph climb past say 150mph the Viper will start to pull away steadily. I'd love to see a mile run between...
No Hellcat motor in Viper please. Keep the Viper engine bespoke.
I would prefer to see the Viper remain a bulletproof track star even though I would also like to see it kick butt in the straights against its competition too. But its becoming pretty obvious that for it to do both in this age...
I think you are spot on with your assessment of the Vipers tarnished image being the thing that needs the biggest upgrade. Irreparable damage has occurred to the G5 through no fault of its own from the marketing side of things. Improvements to the SRT/GTS as you noted would indeed go unnoticed...
Nice measured response once again Bruce. An actual discussion without name calling and infering someones real meaning behind his/her posts. Refreshing.
I must say that my idea about the Viper changed after SRT announced it was going after Porsche etc conquest buyers. They took the Viper...
Good response Bruce. I had a feeling you would bring up the boiling brake fluid of the ZR1 as that seems to be the sticking point for many here as to why CCB's are not for the Viper. But boiling brake fluid has nothing to do with the CCB's does it? You can boil brake fluid with steel rotors...
Bruce my inference about the handling refers to moreso the non-TA Vipers that need some love. Some of the complaints I've read here and in some of the mags about the rear end moving around a bit on hard braking into corners etc not so much about it not being a great handling car. It obviously...
One can only hope. As for 850hp supercharged? Imagine the ungodly torque numbers with a blower. They would need to engineer a surefire way to harness that power to the pavement though. Only real way to fully harness that power fully in a RWD platform is with a DCT coupled with launch control...
Any plans to run in the 1/4 to see if she will break 130mph? Would love to see if their is a mph improvement with just the headers and gears. With the pcm it should be pretty nasty NA if the pcm lives up to the hype.
???
Anyway, the GTR is quite a fast car on track and straight line especially the '12's onward as stated 2 posts above. Its not the prettiest of the beasts out there but you have to respect it for what it can do despite its weight. The upcoming NISMO GTR should make a believer out of its...
I concur with Texas and Swexlin. I respect the opinions that the Viper doesn't need a V10 etc but honestly how would It be Viper DNA without a V10. That V10 is part of what made the Viper iconic just as the V12 etc in others as I mentioned above.
Why not a higher tech V10 then that can spin...
I'm all for change in certain areas of the Viper such as: CCB's, DCT, aluminum chassis, titanium exhaust etc. but one thing I'd never want to see go is a V10 big cube engine. Porsche 911 TT's are always flat 6's, Ferrari and Aston top offering are always V12's and top level Lambos are always...
