VEC2 Tuning issue
Hi Guys,
I came up with an idea after sleeping over the issue of the V notch and have an idea regarding the VEC2 / software. The common thread is the timing advance.
Give me a couple days to look into it and see if I can work out a test. It "could" be a error in the software...
It could literally be "just" more advance than the engine can take. We really need to get a car in the shop that does it so we can try different adjustments ourselves.
Our shop GTS with blower and 9.1:1 compression (bigger combustion chamber volume) is running 5.5 degrees advance (over stock)...
Hi Paul, I'm glad, in a funny sort of way, to hear this. Your old VEC2 has been on my '96 for the last three weeks. I put about 32 miles on it 5 days a week (home to shop) and have not had any problems with it. Glad to hear you found something. Have you re-dyno tested yet?
Regards,
Sean
Hi Guys,
Regarding the occasional, and only on some cars (but not ones with our blower kits ?) hiccup / stumble, it's not something we're dismissing or brushing under the table. It's extremely odd.
Jason Heffner was one of the first tuners to use the VEC2 for an application other than our...
The MSD Super conductor wires (that we use) are not solid core. They are low resistance, high EMI suppression wires. I've never had any static with them, but have with other brands (on a Viper).

Re: Roe Supercharger Packaging Help
Hi FLX,
Ronnie called the other day and I told him that he needed some good cardboard boxes, a glue gun (not necessary, but helpful), styrofoam (get it at the hardware store), packing material (peanuts), some plastic bags (to keep the parts clean inside) and...
Hi Doug,
The VEC2 has a 5 Volt output and 0-5 volt analog input we're not using at the moment. Sounds like you have something that would work well with it. I'll give you a call about it. I've been working on the logging software on and off for the last couple weeks, but should be focusing on it...
With 93 octane, I'd say you're about right on target at 30-31 with stock spark plugs. You could go a step colder on the plug and possibly add a degree more.
To check for pinging while tuning, look at a few plugs with a high power magnifying glass, or jewelers glass. Pre ignition (hot plugs or...
2405mm / 95" without A/C.
The stock non A/C belt is 87 mm shorter than the stock A/C belt.
Andkovacs called me on mobile last night at 8PM and I couldn't get him the correct # until I came into the shop this morning. He's at a parts store now and they have the belt in stock.
Finding his engine...
The kit in candy red above is for a Gen2. The tubes and airbox are common between Gen1 and Gen2 kits, but the throttle linkage is not. There are a lot of differences between the two kits, most of which are from the manifold top plate down. Even the manifold itself is different. It has larger...
Here is a dyno page and a couple of pics:
This is the front drive assembly in production form. it's completely different than Gen2. It was a LOT more involved and includes more parts.
Here's the dyno graphs with air fuel (the lean one was stock). This car is a 1993 RT/10 with about 30K...
Hi Everyone,
Production of the 1992-1996 RT/10 Supercharger kit is finished. We're now working on sub assembly and packing parts. For those of you with orders, we'll start contacting you as your number comes up to verify pulley size and with or without A/C.
I apologize for the delay in the...
The only way I know of to turn "off" the factory idle hang (the one that is programmed to hold the RPM up while the car is moving, but out of gear) is to put a restrictor in the IAC hose.

Re: Supercharger, What\'s the difference between 5, 7 or 8 PSI pulley?
Slide in a new program card (I have some new programs we've put together that are mapped through 12 PSI). Then, verify the A/F ratio is correct and do a plug check (or listen for any pinging with a set of headphones and a...
Hi ERDOC,
It's expected to be concerned and ask these questions as you have a lot invested in your modified engine. As long as your compression ratio is not overly elevated, you should be fine with a proper checkup of the tuning. The program that runs the car is fully adjustable and all of our...
Re: Supercharger, What\'s the difference between 5, 7 or 8 PSI pulley?
Hi Jeff,
The 9.6:1 compression will limit the boost you can effectively run on street gas, even though the bottom end of the motor is strong. Lower octane is easier to self ignite when compressed. With 93 octane fuel, I...
An alternate source is www.txsystems.com
It has to be a Chipdrive one though.
Otherwise, you can get a USB to serial 9 pin adapter from CompUSA.
Hope that helps until the 50 we have on order arrive...

Re: Supercharger, What\'s the difference between 5, 7 or 8 PSI pulley?
Mahle, the piston manufacturer, told us 5 PSI was max on the cast pistons of 2000 and newer. In my opinion, they're correct, and we've worked hard to make the programming as safe as possible at this boost pressure (I...
Hi Isaac,
Dang computers. I wrote a reply, it locked up on me and closed internet explorer before I could hit continue.
Anyway, The fuel pressure test port is on the passenger side. It's a brass fitting. Be careful.
If you turn the key on, the pressure should go to 55 psi, then hold after...
It's a cast bracket and is too weak (sometimes leading to failure). I first saw this back in about 1998 and have been at a few events it happened. It doesn't seem to matter if they're naturally aspirated or Supercharged. The common denominator is that they were / had been driven hard just before...
Hi Matt,
As a test, try turning your key on and letting the fuel pump run once or twice before going to start. If the fuel pressure check valve has failed (it happens), the pressure at startup would be low and the engine would run rough while the pressure builds up to 55. When you turn your key...
Hi Matt,
The 3923's are colder, like the Bosch FR8DC plugs in the kit. They're the desired plug for wide open throttle runs, racing, etc.
If you start the car an immediately drive away cold, it can stumble leaving the first or second stop sign with cold plugs. After it gets a little heat after...
