How much better are the 01-02 ABS brakes

I second the positive impact on braking balance using Tom's 40mm OEM appearing rear calipers on an otherwise stock 1996 GTS. Never had an issue with locking the wheels on the occasional Viper Days track event, nor with fading using fresh SRF brake fluid and the Porsche Air Deflectors with stock...

    Newbie in need of quidance

The air box is open to the elements through the hood screen as you know, however the air box is designed to drain via a single small duckbill valve underneath the unit, accessible from the side with the hood open. With time the rubber gets hard and sticks shut, holding the water and ultimately...

no, No, NO.... you can't do this to your rear brakes!!!!

If you don't want to save them, I'll take them off your hands. Don't need them now but you never know.

Water in pass. floorboard 1998 GTS

There Is a duck bill air box drain valve underneath the air box. With age, they stick shut. That could also be your problem

The Last of the Striker Cylinder Heads Available now - until gone

I received my GENII Stage III "refurbished" heads on Friday. They may have been used, but they look brand new to me. No indication of previous wear or use anywhere. Very impressive looking and though shipping was slow, Steve responded to every email and phone call immediately. Well worth the...

    Door stanchion bowed out

Be careful if you tend to lift the door as you close it. Something I was doing until I got around to re-aligning it so the weather strip wouldn't rub. Worked great until I lifted to enough to have the stanchion hit the roof and crack. Repairable but not smart on my part.

Racing seats and 5 point harnesses

Curious Drew, why just the street? Isn't the issue just as concerning for the track? Having just been on the track yesterday where the benefits of the HANS was explained to me, the neck issue would seem to be a concern in either case and even worse on the track with the added weight of the...

    New battery time. Questions...

I use Bosch - not cheap but occasionally on sale. 36/96 month warranty, side terminal and it lasts... 7+ years and still going strong. Available at Pep Boys - Fits 1996 GTS perfectly and with a Battery Mat underneath, zero tray corrosion.

    Aiming HID headlights?

Perhaps not an issue for you, but I found the HID bulb tabs required a little light filing to get the light source properly centered in the housing relative to the projector lens before I aimed the housing itself. You can tell what's correct by viewing the light pattern cast on the bottom of...

    Good fire extinguisher?

I used a Sean Roe sized extinguisher to put out an engine fire on my Porsche 944S years ago and didn't even use the entire charge to fully extinguish it. All depends what's causing the fire (mine was electrical) and how long it's been burning. Common sense says that if the flames are wrinkling...

lost driver side sill bolt any suggestions for size 02 GTS

I find a dab of silicone does as good a job given that the screws aren't under any real stress. Had one let loose early on and my rear tire picked it up. Expensive screw.

    96 dipstick indicator

What Tom said plus it's frequently better to order parts for a 1997 GTS rather than a 1996 GTS (unless a uniquely 1996 GTS part) as many dealers will order the GENI part given that it was a mixed year with 1996 RT/10 being GENI engines and 1996 GTS obviously being GENII's.

time to change atf in my car , what is recomended .

What year? ATF+4 is the recommended replacement for Vipers originally equipped with ATF. It's a better fluid than the original Dexron II/III, plus a lot cheaper to replace when needed, better shifting and smoother cold weather performance. All good..

    Transmission fluid change

As Steve mentioned, ATF is the factory fill for 92 ~ 98 Vipers, 2008 ~ 2010 and I think the GENV's. As far as I know, all non Viper T-56's were also factory filled with ATF. Given it's broad and successful usage, one has to wonder if it isn't a perfectly good lubricant. Can't see Borg...
