Cost would be a HUGE issue IMO.
OTOH, if SRT could slip a SC on the base model for an additional 20K (>800 HP), I think it could work at clearing existing inventory.
If Dodge does nothing, there will be hundreds of 2013-4 Vipers on lots next spring (I can hear Sergio coming with his axe...
I really hope this SC thing goes thru, at least in some fashion.
How would it be done?
I haven't a clue....it's up to SRT at this point.
I looked at some Vette Forums where there are predictions of mid 10s with the auto trans for the Z06, and that sh!t CANNOT stand!:aargh:
After the disastrous first MT showdown at LS between the G5 and the ZR1 (the responsibility for which rests squarely on SRT's shoulders), the image of the current gen. Viper as a "fail" in some media needs to be changed...and the quicker the better.
These kinds of things can take on a life of...
I sent Motor Trend an e-mail with a link to your post and asked if they would consider taking future times at LS in the manner you prefer.
I'll let you know if they have seen the light and realize the errors of their ways.
As are the ZR1 and the Z06 (both are considerably older cars).
Notice only the TA beat the 5 year old technology of the ZR1 (the C6 Z06 dates to 2005).
I don't want to even SEE the numbers the new Z06 will put up.:eek2:
Agreed.
I'm not "in the know," but am hoping we hear something soon.
Dodge obviously didn't want to go to the expense (?) of putting one in at the launch of the G5.
However, Corvette may force their hand now.
I had low back fusion surgery about 20 years ago...all I can say is DON'T.:curse:
I hope Dodge gets their act together soon or I will have to do the same.
As someone who will probably lose 300k plus when selling one of my houses this fall, I hear ya.:(
However.....I'm sorry, but Obama had nothing to do with the tank in housing and its subsequent affect on the economy.
Wisdom if I ever heard it....
It will be interesting to see Randy Pobst's...
Good point.
My first love is the Viper and I have never owned a Vette.
However, this Z06 does get my attention....
Absolutely agree the Viper is better "looking."
IMO, it is by far the most beautiful American car on the market.
IMO (again), it compares well with the ultra-exotics as well.
OTOH...
The TA is the stand-out, due to its handling abilities.
The other 2 didn't break new performance milestones of consequence when compared to the G4.
Ah, you must be old like me!:D
Seriously, I hear ya on that.
The Viper base is getting older and every day find it harder physically to do things...
With the current V10, probably not.
The architecture is likely to be mismatched.
However, the G1 Jeep GC SRT (which I owned) had an AMG auto because Chrysler didn't have an off-the-shelf trans. that could handle the Hemi.
Maybe some help from Ferrari here....
Could very well be....which is...
Agreed.
IF the Snake continues, it will have to do something along those lines.
IIRC, the Hellcat has 650 lbs. being put thru its auto.
I doubt that it wasn't tested extensively for reliability.
And LIGHT: "The 8L90 weighs about 8 pounds less than the outgoing six-speed automatic thanks to extensive use of magnesium and aluminum."
Here is the most important part of the Autoweek Review:
After driving three high-powered cars with eight-speed, torque-converter automatics (Challenger SRT...
Sergio ONCE UPON A TIME cared...until Vipers started sitting around on dealer's lots (possibly the main reason why he pulled Ralph's SRT initiative back).
A Viper paddle shifter does not necessarily have to be a DCT.
Here are some reviews of the 8 speed trans. going into the new Z06...
Typically, dropping a roots-style SC on a Ford V8 nets approx. 50% increase in power at low boost (6-8 lbs.)..
Not a problem for them; they already have their G5.
