lol re DI being a band aid.
That was funny.
Common rail super high pressure fuel systems enabled diesels to evolve from the dark sooty ages to the state of art engines some of them are today.
DI will do the same for the gas engines.... these are the early days, DI is here to stay and will...
Direct injection, forged internals, detonation preventing chambers (or pre-chambers) and rear mount twin turbos would get my vote. It takes 0.1 seconds to get the air from the rear to the engine - the delay is immaterial even in racing. Rear mount turbo cars are amongst the fastest on earth...
I think SRT has got it pretty close. The next evolutions I'd like to see would be:
1 - a professional ECU module so tuners could get full engine/trans ECU access (could even be on an approved basis to preclude cowboys getting in there, could even require passing some kind of training). This...
The car is not even fully sorted let alone evolved to it's final form.
Some of the very negative comments might as well be from trolls. The GTS is not boosted and the extra engine size will never compensate for a pulley change and retune if GM want to up the game with their ZR1. Apples to...
Race series often specify a control tire so that all cars are equal on tires. It would seem a fair comparison to compare cars and track times using the same control tire. I don't think that is reasonable to jump to conclusions that the Gen 5 is slower than a ZR1 yet. I'm with Bobpantax...
Is there any word yet as to how long it will be before the general public will be able to buy the new Viper? Sounds like the first years production is all spoken for in advance. Are we looking at end of 2013 before cars will be available or beyond?
:drive:
Good post. I like what you said and the way you put it together.
In the end a Viper is an emotive and personal purchase. For some the car just grabs them and they have to have one, so they make it happen. As for me, I do not need a committee to help me decide.
Good video. I think that when people talk off the cuff they should be given far more slack than when they give a prepared speech where every word had to be considered. He's being honest but in a context he did not expand on. I took "soft and flacid" to refer to the chassis dynamics not the...
If anyone deserved the title of FIRST IRS IN THE SIXES it was you Sal. No doubt that Vette will catch up soon enough, but nobody can ever take it away from you now, you can only be first once, and history will always remember it was you.
Congrats Sal, I'm so pleased for you. BTW that was the...
Good job SRT and Ralph Giles for being the Gen 5 champion. That car is a labor of love and that is evident to all who can see it for what it is instead of like some here through their dark negative states.
This is the first Viper I will actually save up for and buy
I don't see the point in a lag inducing front intercooler blocking the engine radiator for a rear mount turbo. Properly plumbed, the intake will cool substantially on its trip from back to front (you could even run fins along the tubing) then adding water injection would be more than enough...
ok - off topic but I lol'd when I read about someone wanting 2000rwhp in a street Viper. Sorry, but that power level is about as useful in a true streetcar as selling c o c k flavored lollipops.
Ok lol over.
Back on topic - 800rwhp is about perfect for a great streetcar in my opinion, with...
Incredible footage and absolutely my new favorite video of the Ring. Props to all involved and it speaks volumes for both the Viper ACR and the Gen 5 to come. Awesome.
It will be worth waiting for. Nothing rushed too quickly comes out right. I'm sure the video will be the bomb.... just hope it does not have music dubbed over that engine note!
700ft/lbs at 2000rpm on a turbo set up is astonishing. I will be very interested to see what such a DIY set up for the SRT will look like.
I love the gen 2 twin side IC mount setup - by far the most practical solution I have seen to provide efficient inter cooling without any penalty to...
Hahahahaha anyone that thinks those Chinese knocks offs are an improvement ought to buy twin tornados to boost their intakes. Combined they should add 200hp on the seat of pants and lack of brain neuron dynometer. Gawd those are a hideous POS inside
Some mild displays of CONTROLLED acceleration while leaving an event are often a closing highlight for spectators that have enjoyed a static display - just to hear the sound and see a glimpse of the cars under modest provocation up to the speed limit.
It is a pity that the rush of blood to the...
The GTR has shift speeds of 0.2 seconds per shift or less. Around the ring there are hundreds of shifts. The T56 requires around 0.5 seconds to shift. Much time is lost driving a T56 compared to the new high tech boxes with electronic clutches etc.
