No I didn't paint it I left it black. Had to get it ordered and installed quickly as I was running the car in the One Lap of America and hadn't planned ahead far enough. Autoform only had black in stock. There was a guy in an 03 Vert that had the Autoform roll hoops certified for VIR before...
I am a VIR member and yes that is confirmed. In fact they would need to approve a rollbar if you install one. The Autoform one is the way to go. They approved it on my 03 even though they didn't like that it was a dual hoop instead of a single hoop. However, given they approved it there is...
I've been told by the engineer that worked with Michelin on the tire package that yes the PS2 C1 OEM Viper tire has the same compound as the Cups. Just had it confirmed by him today. Luke from Tire Rack confirmed same thing. The SRT engineer can't really speak to the Super Sports as they have...
Remember though that the Viper OEM PS2 with the C1 compound designation has the same compound as the Pilot Cups. Given this will the Super Sports actually outperform the "Viper" PS2. Not all PS2s are created equal.
I also spoke to Luke in the last couple of days. He said go with the PS2s. I'm running One Lap again and the tires will only be good for the week so its not like I'm going to keep them for a while. SRT engineer says PS2s as well, not the Super Sports.
I know the SRT Vehicle Dyanamics engineer. He was responsible for the tire/suspension package on the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Vipers and is currently working on many aspects of the Gen 5 (which of course he won't tell me about). He has told me on several occasions you cannot beat the PS2s (at least not...
The driver, as I remember it, did not submarine. The car decelerated in an instant upon impact, presumably with a lot of g's. The driver's body (or it could have been the navigator) also stopped forward motion due to being strapped into the car with 6 point harnesses. Unfortunately the...
6 point. A 5 point has a sub belt that would go straight down the front middle of the seat and would attach to the floor in front of the seat. Most knowledgable folks would say that 6 points are safer. Some might say that 6 points are less comfortable. I use 5 points as that's what I've used...
The front wheel looks like it might be a prototype, it doesn't appear to be finished off as nicely as one would expect an OEM wheel to be. Check out the outer rim, looks like you could use clip on weights. Hardly likely that they would issue a new Viper wheel like this. I also don't ever...
Ok, so my car was a Gen 3. But while competing on the Cannonball One Lap of America my exhaust got so hot at No Problem Raceway in Louisanna (car was supercharged) that the insulation near the exhaust started to melt. Fumes made my eyes water and I originally thought the car was on fire...
Twister, nothing wrong with trying to work on your own car. However, ask advice first and read the manuals before starting. The service manuals are there for a reason. Even professional techs have to refer to the manuals for car specific stuff. Don't be embarrassed (at least not too much)...
Did both gauges move abnormally quickly to the high end or did they move up gradually? What did the smoke or under hood smell like? Burnt rubber? Antifreeze? Oil? Check wires near the engine and especially the exhaust. Did a wire or wires come loose and fall onto exhaust? Do you see any...
Pretty clear from the video that Twister added water to the power steering pump. Not good. System will need to be flushed at a minimum but the water could have damaged the internals of the power steering pump and the hydraulic fans. That would suck as then the fan assembly and the power...
Got an online quote of $3520 for my 08 Viper with 16800 miles. This is a Max Care 7year/70000 mile warranty. Didn't see how I could get the discount code since they immediately ask for my credit card number. Price is much higher than what I've paid before.
