Road & Track is definitively anti Viper. They always have been and always will be. They have a European slant that will begrudgingly accept the Vette as a working man's Ferrari. Outside of that, they hate American muscle. I have written them a number of times, challenging their statistical...
Dirk,
There is no doubt that the Viper performance numbers are earth shattering. Perhaps I should have clarified my comments. When I speak of "broadening its appeal," I am mostly referring to it's look. The design of the Gen III is not as radical as Gen I and II. I think that most of the core...
I believe that DC will not go quietly as far as letting Corvette or other brands top the Viper. The one thing that I just don't understand is how they seem to think that making the Viper more mass appeal will sell more cars. Making the car LESS mass appeal will sell cars. In marketing, targeting...
I got rid of idle hang on my 96 GTS by replacing the racing computer with the stock one. I don't think that it cost any power either. The driveability is much better.
My experience with Dodge has been quite the opposite. They have quickly fixed anything I complained about and went above and beyond the call of duty several times. Anyone who has a problem with a dealer simply needs to take it to SRT and it will be fixed. Also, it's true, Tom Sessions is one of...
I have to think that DC knows that they have to up the HP and will do that when the time comes. I agree with everyone about regarding the looks. Give me the CC look or a carbon SRT with huge HP.
Re: Dyno
Y2K3SRT's way of computing the HP and TQ is correct. You divide by .90 (assuming a 10% loss), not multiply by 110%. It's a small difference, but division is the correct formula.
Re: Viper\'s security system whigs out!
My 96 GTS has that problem. It generally happens at VOI's which I surmise means that it doesn't like the signals from other cars remote alarm button. In any event, the fastest way to cure it is to disconnect the battery cable at the terminal block under...
I would forget about the replacement price and force them to give you the MSRP price of the car plus the mods, brand new! There is no way that finding a seven year old car that has been babied the way you baby your own car is possible. They deserve an extra penalty and I suspect that any decent...
Guys,
Every car is different (among different models). There are cars that will overheat with NO thermostat because the water flows so quickly that it doesn't have a chance to cool down as it passes through the radiator. A thermostat is supposed to slow the speed of the flow to a particular...
I LOVE the shape of a clown shoe. That's why I own the car. When guys say that to me I reply "Yea..that's why I bought the car." After all, they have a car that looks like nothing special....a Corvette. (I am now laughing)
It's now time to put your foot INTO the clown shoe and remind them that...
Jeff,
Here's my two cents. Don't feel that you must go to Barber before Viper Days. Viper Days will not let you on track alone until you've had all the instruction you need to make you safe and then they let you proceed at your own pace. Some guys tend to be fast right off the bat (not many)...
And if they do release the coupe soon, are you guys going to b**ch about the coupon program and why some presidents (or whoever) got their cars before others? Today, in hindsight, it should be crystal clear that DC did us all a favor with the coupon program. We got to get the cars without...
Snakester, the rear end kicked out because you didn't heel and toe when you downshifted. When you don't heel and toe and you let the clutch out, it acts as a momentary brake on the rear wheels, upsetting the balance of the car. The ultimate solution is to both double clutch and heel and toe when...
I too, think that the stereo is not very good in the SRT. It's all highs and lows with no midrange, as Skip said before. I find that the enclosure rattles a lot as well. I do differ with some of you in that I think that the Bose system is no better. I had a Bose in an old ZR-1 that I owned. The...
