I finally got around to making my new sub box for my 2003. I have had the 8" shallow mount sub sitting around for 3 years. The sub sounds good with just the stock amp.
There is a thread about how to make a sub box to replace the stock one. I will be building a fiberglass box to fit in the stock location with a 8" shallow mount sub. I just got done putting in the avic z1 so the sub box is next.

The amp will just boost the signal that it gets from the head unit. If the after market head unit has less watts than stock then the amp will have less to boost. If you look at after market head units they have different volts ratting for the amp preouts. The higher the volts the more the amp...
I swapped mine out but all i could find to fit were off brand. I think it was a 2 1/2" speaker. Also the tweeter in the dash was a off brand also and i think it was a 3/4"
I really love GTS blue so i bought the paint already. I'm going to luke air force base today to check out there paint booth just to make sure i have everything i need to get to get it done right this time. The main reason i don't like the paint now is that it is not gts blue like it was suppose...
