When the C4 Corvette came out, GM did skip a year. At least I think they did.
As I recall, the C3 ended in 1982 and the C4 started in 1984.
I don't think there was any Corvette production in 1983.
This may not be true, but I think I remember that it happened that way.
Re: In my quest to find a \'94-95 Viper
Well, the interior looks fairly rude.
But still, if I were some young car guy with limited funds, I would really like to have that car for something under $10k.
What else could you get for that kind of money?
Even a $25k gen1 is out of reach for lots of...
But even if it was 5 points higher than our high test 93, there wouldn't be much you could do to take advantage of that in a stock Viper.
Vipers have no knock sensor and I believe you would need some kind of tuner box to change the timing.
You could think of a 2002 Toyota Camry as a commodity, sort of like oil.
If you had a pipeline from here to New York, filled with these Toyota cars, you could just stick one in one end of the pipe and it would force another out the other end of the pipe.
The fact that it wasn't exactly the same...
"The only thing that resembles a crossover is a resistor soldered inline with the door tweeter. It filters out the low frequencies."
A resistor won't filter anything.
If it is a low pass filter, it would have to be a capacitor.
"the dowel pins are what center every thing up. With out the pin or pins (two) there is a good chance there will be a side load on the input shaft bearing and it will fail."
That's what I think.
The pin isn't there just to aid in getting it lined up while you screw in the bolts.
As you say Fred, skill is needed,
And if you know how to launch with a 3.55, you will get off the line faster than you will with 3.08
There is more torque at the rear wheels in first gear with the 3.55 than with the 3.08
You just have to know how to use it.
If you need x amount of torque at...
"Launch is difficult enough with stock gears, the 3:55's would seem to make it more difficult to launch?"
To get a good dragstrip launch. Something is going to have to slip.
There isn't enough horsepower availabe at low rpm to get the car moving quickly from a dead stop.
So the engine...
"THERE WAS NO WATER IN ANY OF THE FLUIDS, BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY FREAKED AND TOTALED IT."
This makes no sense at all.
Why was the insurance company involved at all?
Re: I have not seen this intake before. -It\'s the PreChiller
Hard to believe that the AC could cool all that intake air enough to do any good.
Also the drag from the AC isn't a small thing.
The guy says this is used in offshore racing boats. I'm trying to figure out why it would work for a...
"The seller told me it stalled if he did not run the battery tender on it. I Put a new battery in immediately and never plug my battery into the battery tender anymore."
This is one of the reasons you don't want to use a battery tender.
It will mask battery problems or problems with current...
The number of people looking for a used, salvage Viper is small.
The number of those people who would consider buying a used, salvage Viper with a non stock looking hood is even smaller.
The number of people who would pay extra for that hood is still smaller.
The old GM 3.8 V6 had an uneven fire crank when it first came out and it was something that kept the engine from being as smooth as people would like. This was mostly a regular ol engine for grandma's car, so smooth was better.
GM did a little mod that helped to some extent.
Instead of having...
I changed top 3.55 gears and it does make the car a little harder to keep down the wheelspin.
I went to the sticky Kouhmo 700 tires and that seemed to solve the problem.
The main reason I changed was the 6th gear issue. I live in a fairly rural area with no big highways/
I found that with the...
After you get up to high speed, there will be little difference between the performance of one rear ratio and another.
One rear may have you in 4th while the other has you in 3rd.
The overall ratio may be very close to the same.
I believe that the right rear for any given road race will depend...
Re: To Those Who read the post
"On the serious side, I had this happen to me once when a co-worker decided to write a note to our boss when I left my PC unlocked."
Almost as funny as the time some guys found a co workers computer at his desk with a travel report ready to be printed out and...
"But, the fast sweep like a dynojet actually reflects the acceleration potential of an engine/driveline combo better."
Yes, I understand that.
The car will do a sweep from idle to max rpm quicker in second gear than it will in third gear.
This is not a change in RWHP, this is an artifact of...
"I am starting to understand that. Arguing against the laws of physics in this realm was a difficult job but Joe was up to the task"
Ok, that's cute. But let's see what you really know about physics.
Do gears change your RWHP?
Yes or No.
I'm not talking about small friction variations.
