Gen 2 overheating in Texas sun… go figure

You have to burp, and burp, and burp; then drive with the heater on, and cool to ambient several times. Your header tank is going to keep getting low until the air is gone. If the overflow tank in the fascia is not kept comfortably above the mininum window level, it's going to siphon more air...

Gen 2 overheating in Texas sun… go figure

Your 165 t-stat is not going to help. You most likely have air pockets in your engine, heater core and hoses that are blocking liquid flow. Search for threads with "burping, coolant flow" and read a bit. Turn your heater on and let the coolant circulate with the engine fully warmed. Keep your...

Can we verify sequence of 1992 Vipers?

Yes. He's local and I collaborated with him on parts of his document.. My car started down the line right after Indy and VOI 3

Can we verify sequence of 1992 Vipers?

As an example, my GTS was also very early production - starting on 05/29 and is VIN 98. It also came with the D.S. rear oil fill. It wasn't delivered to me until mid-July due to their regional delivery schedule with Reliable Carriers. I'm curious as to what your MDH is Dave? Edit: (MonthDayHour)

Gen1 o-ring specs ps reservoir to ps pump?

I recently replaced my 26 year old reservoir. Despite a fresh pump inspection and reseal, it kept leaking. Turns out the reservoir was leaking from the plastic seam welds.

This pump/reservoir was also used on Jeep Grand Cherokees.

    Clutch or something else??

You could pull injector plugs individually to see if there is an expected drop in rpm with each one. Don't run it more than about ~5 seconds unhooked. Plug into the OBD port and check Long Term Adaptive Fuel Trim on Left vs Right bank. Check O2 sensor running values to see if they are cycling...

Viper Gen1 - steering wheel holes

Sabelt should have the correct hub available to adapt that wheel to the Chrysler spline.

Viper Gen1 - steering wheel holes

The problem is that the factory wheel and hub adapter's fasteners are oriented with the 6 hole group indexed level-across at 9 and 3 o'clock and I assume the master spline is at 12. This wheel has them indexed at 12 and 6. He needs to research Chrysler hub adapters for these critical reference...

    Looking for 2002 Water pump

No new pumps available. It is possible that the plastic impeller has failed. If that's all that happened, Flow Kooler sells machined billet impellers to press on. If the seal is leaking, you'll either have to rob the guts out of a Gen1 pump and swap them in, or source a rebuilt pump from Old...

Viper Gen1 - steering wheel holes

I believe I read that the master spline on the Gen3+ cars are at 90 degrees to the G1 & 2 columns. If one of those adapters is used, that might get the holes clocked right for the Sabelt wheel. You can use the tie rods to move the wheel position center, but the car will bump steer because of...

A/C help on 1 gen without it

When I ordered my '93 I got both options: Black paint, and dealer-installed Air Conditioning kit. There's probably a part number for the kit and a breakdown of components. Some vendors like PartsRack, Don Scharf Automotive and Mike Schertzberg might be able to help piece it together.

Need input for hi flo cats

You have a Gen 5. You're going to have exhaust code issues with pretty much ANY mods that involve the cats.

Looking at a 94 with some issues. Need opinions.

The Aussies are coming after the Gen1's now. They're just about at an age point they don't have to be converted to RHD to put on the roads.

    Gen 2 Suspension Bushing interchange

Helps control rebound. I've tried it both ways back-to-back and the SOTP difference was not insignificant. Looks like our cars are extremely similar except for your heads & cam and larger rotors/calipers. I've done a good bit since I listed my mods years ago.

    Gen 2 Suspension Bushing interchange

Since this subject has come up repeatedly over almost three decades, I thought I would provide some verified user data for all to benefit from. The only ones I have yet to verify are the rear upper wishbones. When replacing rubber bushings on a Viper, it is CRITICAL to follow the Service Manual...

    Major Oil Leak Help

That sound may be from either pump cavitation, sucking air someplace, or a cooked seal squealing. A little bit of fluid can make a huge mess of the underside of the car from front to back, including above the belly pan.

    Dangerous Gen III Suspension?

After 25 years of regular and pretty heavy track driving in my '96 GTS, I finally added external support. I couldn't tell any difference from the way it drove from when I had the INBOARD toe link strut for 21 years.

Looking at a 94 with some issues. Need opinions.

In addition to Dave's comments, early Gen 1 hoods required A LOT of body filler from the factory to pass muster. Mid-'93+ were better, but still had a noteworthy factory rejection rate. Buying a 30 year old Viper with issues will require time, patience, money and mechanical knowledge. They are...

    Dangerous Gen III Suspension?

I agree with Steve. The knuckle support strut is unnecessary except for frequent track driving. Knuckles fail when they sustain sudden, extreme overloadings in abnormal directions of travel.

How to build a Primer Timer and cure your Viper Fuel Pump Starting Problem

Pump replacement is not impossible - just a bit of a challenge. The RT/10 requires the removal of both the trunk forward closeout panel and the removal of the tank to access the fuel module. Check out the 850hp sticky post at the top of the Gen1/2 forum.
