Heel and toe seems difficult in the Viper

As an alternative, Zero Altitude Flight sells several styles of pedal overlays which can help in heel-toe (and also look great). I believe there are several other vendors with pedal kits, too.

Auto Xray has a similarly priced unit. No personal experience with either. Someone did post recently about the Auto Xray unit, though.

How do you protect your Viper at the track?

I took my yellow 01 GTS out for a couple of Viper Days events. The first event I put down a lot of yellow racing tape on the lip of the wheel wells, lower fascia, etc. The yellow car really shows up the black rubber marks you pick up on-track. And afterwards, cleaning off the adhesive from...

Va-Md Dyno Day Results -- What Creampuffs?

    Posted by Cody:
quote:
It takes 403.6 RWHP to get 450 at the crank with a vipers driveline loss.

That calculates out to a 10.3% driveline loss. Isn't that a little low? I thought the figure was a little higher...

Va-Md Dyno Day Results -- What Creampuffs?

A couple of notes: The side exhaust 99 was a conversion done by the owner, not an aftermarket kit. Note the similarity between like cars. For example, the two 2001's with tubes and filters & rear pipes: one made 406 the other 408 rwhp. For the most part, there's a lot of consistency in...

Why do you like stripes vs no stripes on your Viper?

I've always thought the GTS looks better with stripes -- with the possible exception of solid black. But then all this is purely personal preference.

    First Post!

If you do nothing else, get someone from your local Viper Club (don't know which CA club is near you) to talk to you to answer some questions, and, more importantly, check out the car you plan to buy (if it's local). If you're looking at buying a car out of state, check with that VCA region's...

Va-Md Dyno Day Results -- What Creampuffs?

Heffner’s Performance hosted a Dyno Day for the Virginia-Maryland VCA today. Weather was excellent – 80 degrees. In all 14 cars were tested in a near perfect controlled environment -- all in the same way, on the same day, using the same DynoJet dyno, by the same tester (Jason Heffner). The...

Metal piece fell out of truck and took out front facia!

Last fall I was blasting around some good ole West Virginia roads -- two lanes, twisty, not a lot of traffic. At one point, I was coming around a turn to my left, and as I'm approaching the turn, I see an old pickup truck (the ratio of pickup trucks vs cars registered in WV must be 10 to 1!)...

2000-2001 creampuffs, no way get your facts straight

Are there really any bone stock Vipers out there? Doesn't everybody install smooth tubes and filters?

    viper owners get special treatment?

The biggest problem with taking your Viper in for service anywhere is that someone else (hopefully only the mechanic) will drive the car. And no one else is going to take as good care of your car as you. Before I bought a lift, I had the dealer change my oil, and fortunately, nothing bad ever...

Hot AS HADES NEED YOUR INPUT

No offense, but, man, you're easy. A guy who's not one of your close friends -- just a friend of a friend -- walks up to you, hands you the keys to his old POS 911, and figures that entitles him to take your $70,000 Viper on an oh-sh*t! joyride. And you let him! I'd be careful, because if the...

Anyone Have Viper as ONLY Car?

There aren't any mechanical reasons not to use the Viper as a daily driver. The deterrants I can think of are non-mechanical:

Security. Vipers attract a lot of attention, not all of it positive. Will you always have a secure place to park it? The GTS fares better than...

Winter is coming soon...advise on a trickle charger

I have the Battery Tender (available at Pep Boys, Griots, etc.) for around $60. There is a short cable which can be permanently attached to the underhood jumper posts, and with a couple of wire ties, the quick connect plug can be accessed by reaching in the rear side hood opening. I've used my...

too much brake dust on my wheels.

EBC Greenstuff pads available from GreatBrakes.com, PartsRack, etc. No squeal, virtually no dust, more linear response, cheaper than stock ($140 for all 4 wheels, VCA price). Search the board for "EBC" for further testimonials.

    ACR VS GTS?

The recommended break-in period on the 00's and 01's is 1000 miles. During the break-in period you are advised to vary the RPM's and avoid sustained driving at a steady RPM. This makes picking a car up out of town and driving back 800-1000 miles of interstate or expressway driving not such a...

I NEED A NEW SHORTTHROW SHIFTER.....

If you are looking to replace the entire shifter, the B&M Ripper shifter is a good alternative. Summit Racing was selling those for $199 when I bought mine in January.

    GEN I Value

Assuming you buy a 94-95 Gen I right -- low $40's, maybe high $30's -- I don't think you're looking at the car taking a big hit in value when the Gen III's come out. There may be a point in time right after the 2003's debut that the Viper market gets flooded with used Vipers as Viper owners who...

Looking for 97 or Up Viper GTS for Under $45,000

You'll have to look pretty hard to find a decent 97 GTS as cheap as that $43K one you've found. If it checks out OK, that's the one to buy. I seriously doubt you'll do any better.

    Brake Dust ?????

You will be happy with the EBC green pads. At, I believe, around $140/set for VCA members they will give you no dust, no squeal and a more linear pedal response. I've got 9000 miles on my front set (still waiting for 2001 rears!) and I am very satisfied. Save your stock pads for the track. A...

FOG LIGHTS(One side brighter than other???)

I'm not I had the same same problem as you, but one of the fog lights on my 01 seemed to be dimmer than the other. One night we pulled the car up to within 10 feet of a wall and re-aimed the "dim" one, which was pretty far out of aim. That cured the problem.

    2000 Vipers are no creampuffs

I put 40,000 miles on my 97 GTS and replaced it with an 01 GTS. I agree with everyone else that the 01 is a much smoother ride. Both cars were/are basically stock, except for filters & hoses. (Oh yeah, the 01 has a Snake Oyl rear pipe. That's good for, what, 3 HP?). I sold the 97 to my...
