Longest Trip in The Viper?

I 1999 I drove from Northern Virginia to Las Vegas for VOI-5 (2400 miles). After VOI-5 I spent another week in Colorado and Utah sightseeing, and then drove back to Virginia, stopping in Michigan to visit a friend. Total distance in about 16 days: 7000 miles.

Looking for a nice set of pedals....

Steve, I don't have a picture of the pedals. The ones from SRP that you posted look like they'll do the job, and at $61 are a good buy. I do think the ZAF racing pedals look a little better, and I get a lot of compliments on those pedals. ZAF has a product sheet they can send you (they're...

    Viper Reliability?

I sold my 97 GTS last November. It had 42,000 miles on it. (I was original owner.) The car was well-maintained, oil changed every 3000 miles, fluids at recommended intervals. In just over three years of operation, the repairs done to my car were:

I had the Intake...

Wait for '03 or buy "01 or '02?

Re: Wait for \'03 or buy \"01 or \'02? A similar thread passed this way about a month ago. It was titled "In light of the 2003 would I be foolish to buy a 98-00?" started by Viperdrummer. I suggest you do a search for the phrase "foolish to buy" in the Subject, and read the responses. Most...

    Rear brake pads for 2001

I also installed a set of R4 AP599's on the rear of my 2001 GTS and ran them at VIR this past weekend. I'm not particularly aggressive or hard on brakes, but I had plenty of brake (setup: stock calipers, front & rear R4 pads, Stop-Tech Aero front Rotors, Stop-Tech stainless steel lines, all...

... and, who has the highest mileage Viper

Sold my 97 GTS (which I bought new in 10/97) this past November. It had 42,000 miles. I now have 9200 miles on my 8-month old 2001 GTS.

    More Questions....color??

Of the Gen II cars, stripes were available as a factory option on RT/10's only in 1997 (the aforementioned blue-white). Solid color availability through the years:

1997 -- Red, Viper Blue w/white stripes
1998 -- Red, Silver
1999 -- Red, Silver, Black
2000 --...

Major differences: 96 GTS vs newer GTSs

There are not a lot of significant changes in the Viper since 01. Cast pistons in 00 and ABS in 01 are the major ones. Your choice should probably come down to these issues:

Old vs New -- Do you want a car that you absolutely know that wasn't abused and is in perfect...

Tire pressure -- there should be a sticker on the driver's door which indicates the correct pressure. Which is 29 psi. Floor mats -- If you have the Mopars, they suck. Get a set from Maurice Liang of the Northern California Viper Club . Other good mats can be purchased from ViperWare or...

    02 GTS ordered

Wayne! Wayne! Whats this "Thought I'd try [to] not rack up the miles from day one" stuff? With 72K miles on your old Viper, you've always been one of my heroes: a guy who actually drives his Viper. Does this mean your 2002 will be a garage queen? Say it ain't so! You are truly one of the...

Viper for rent in DC area early August?

Links Luxury Car Rental in Silver Spring claims to have an RT/10 for rent. I picked up their brochure at the Washington Auto Show in January. Their Phone # is 877-680-9400 or 301-587-4004.

In light of the 2003 would I be foolish to buy a 98-00??

I agree with Joe and Andrew. While the performance numbers of the 2003 are predicted to be better than the current model's, the styling -- in the opinion of many -- is just not as distinctive. You're driving around today in a vehicle whose styling dates back 10 years, and still people see you...

OK I tried 'em all. My 2 cents on waxes.

Re: OK I tried \'em all. My 2 cents on waxes. I like the Griot's window cleaner. It does not leave streaks. However, if there's a lot of road film or bug guts, you'll need to use a plastic webbed scrubber to break loose the dirt. (or clean first with Windex) Griot's cleaner doesn't seem to have...

    The Best Brake Pads?

A couple of guys in our region have used the Hawk (I don't know what compound) and were pleased with their performance. And their price-to-performance ratio is excellent. Again, it seems everyone has his preferences. Pads that work great for one person may not work well for the next guy.

    The Best Brake Pads?

Ken, The EBC green pads are not recommended for track use. They will wear away just too quickly. Your stock pads should work fine for one track event, as long as you check them after each track session. (Of course, you can go as far as you want concerning brakes -- pads, rotors, stainless steel...

    The Best Brake Pads?

According to an email I got from Kingman a week or so ago, they are hoping to get the rear pads for the 2001 in July or August. I, too, am getting tired of the dust and noise my rear stock pads make. I've got nearly 8,000 miles on my EBC green front pads, and they are truly the best street pad...

    optima batteries for 2001

A friend just bought one for his 97 GTS. Optima recommended the 800 CA Red Top. Optima Part number from the box is 0753-9004-003. He bought the battery from Jegs High Performance in Delaware for $157 (including shipping). He did have to saw off about a 1/4 inch of the top negative terminal to...

According to Mike Shveda, the PA-WV club will have a hospitality tent on the show field on Saturday for Vipers this year, as they have done in the past. This is open to VCA members from any region.
