    Sill Corrosion Repair

Jay, Once I had the sills stripped, repaired, and ready for paint I sat down with my painter who is very experienced in high end autos and "tricky" paint situations. We decided to go with a special primer/adhesion agent, then use base coat/clear coat inside and out. The painter felt that the...

Side sill heat... how much is to much???

I can't figure out what you means when you says "you gets a soft spot in the sill". I have a 97 GTS with factory cats and mine gets hot where I live, but I have never experienced a soft spot in the sill. I might be tempted to remove that sill and take a look at your new exhaust and be sure the...

    Sill Corrosion Repair

Jay, I did a set that were pretty bad, one sill was real bad(came from Fla. and had salt water damage like you describe). They are a pain to strip, but I would be very careful about having them blasted. They are very soft alum. (as I am sure you know) and would be easy to warp and pit. If most...

    Stripping paint from sidesill

DO NOT BLAST them, they are very soft alum. and will warp and pit badly. It does take time, but when you are finished, it will look good. I had some sheet insulation(not sure who made it) that looks like asbestos cloth and one side has a thick alum. foil adhered to it. If you are going to change...

    Stripping paint from sidesill

bth1, Appox. 1 1/2 years ago I stripped , repaired, and painted a set of side sills(Gen 1) to convert my GTS to side exhaust. That Airplane Stripper works great, but be careful with it as it is caustic. You will also need to remove the "paint" fron the inside to get down to bare metal. I used a...

VCA MEMBERS PLEASE READ - WINDOW STICKERS

Count me in. I bought my Viper used and though it was a low milage car, it did not come with the window sticker. I don't even know where it was originally purchased. Would love to have one and would rather it did NOT say copy(if I have a choice).

    Oil Change Question

Steve, Do you think that "Lube Pits" are lubing those upper ball joints on the front and rear? I don't! I am going to give it a try(remember the lazy part) and will report my findings. I agree that it is easy to use too much grease which makes a mess and accomplishes nothing....Doc

    Oil Change Question

I stand corrected!! I just spent some time with my Viper up on the rack. The lower ball joint fitting is easy to get to especially if it is at a right angle pointing toward the opposite wheel. The upper ball joint on the front is the tough one. I see where Steve is going with this.If I remove...

    Oil Change Question

Steve, Again, I must be missing something. I just went out into the shop to look and looking through my wheels(97GTS), there is nothing but brake rotor. I even tried to feel behind the rotors to see if I could feel the grease fittings....No luck. On my car, the wheel/tire is so close to the A...

    Oil Change Question

Hey CanadianViperGTS, I will be intrested in knowing if a grease fitting change allows you to fully lube your Viper with the wheels in place. It didn't appear to me that there was enough room, but maybe. If I were to guess, I think that these "lube pits" are lubing the accessible grease fittings...

1997 GTS, with the GOLD PACKAGE for sale

Did those 7 GTS come with a gold Sneaky pete decal on the front fenders?? I don't remember ever seeing this as stock/factory.

    Oil Change Question

Man, there must be something wrong with me or my Viper. I have a 4 post lift in my shop and there is no way I can lube all of those grease fittings without removing the wheels. Believe me I tried because I am lazy and thought that I could do it without removing the wheels. Are you guys(and gals)...

    Oil Change Question

Viperbob, I have a question for you. I own a 97GTS and it is IMPOSSIBLE for me, at least, to lube my Viper completely without removing all of the wheels. Does your Quik Lube do that for you for $20? Just wondering.....Doc

    Door Adjustment

McCarlin, you can help that situation with adjustment. These bodys are fiberglass so don't expect "show car" gaps.My GTS has the top of the door(rear portion) slightly higher than the rear fender. It is that way on both sides. You can correct your problem with adjustment, but take your time and...

    Door Adjustment

After scaning the old forum posts, I adjusted my driver's door. It is perfect now and am very pleased!! My question is, will it stay adjusted now, or will it have to be re-adjusted in the future? I plan to keep this "sweetheart" for ever and was wondering. Thanks.....Doc

    Buying coolant for the viper

Tom, Glad you said what you said, in that, I just changed my antifreeze and went with Dex-Cool. I have been changing all of my cars over to the long acting coolant because I think it is better, especially for alum. radiators, plus I am getting LAZY in my old age.

    Door alignment

I just did my driver's door last week. You can do it by yourself (I did), but it is more difficult. I used a few towels between the bottom of the door and the door sill to allow the door to move up slightly as I loosened the hinge bolts. Take your time. It is fairly straight forward, but...

    Dent Repair of Side Sill

I agree with GTSnake. The side sills are very soft alum. and easy to form or straighten. I re-did a set for my GTS when I converted to side exhaust. There is a link on removal of the side sill associated with Corsa exhaust installation that is very informative. If you do not consider yourself to...
