Mine was coming on at random times, even while driving. Then, I noticed that the alarm couldn't be turned off via the key fob, and the car wouldn't start. Had to replace the alarm module and the entry module, and all has been fine since.
Simple economics. The '02 and before Vipers are extremely popular "modern classics", and the demand for them is still quite strong. However, supply for them is only going to go one way- down.
Strong demand + constricting supply = Higher Prices.

The factory alarm in my Gen I continues to give me problems, where the fuel cutoff gets stuck "on" and the fob won't disable it. This has been happening quite a bit lately (leaving me stranded) and I don't feel like dealing with battery disconnects or grounding green wires every time; I'd...
Fell in love with the car when I first laid eyes on it in 1992. Went to school and got my degree in IT. Was lucky to get a job with a good company when I graduated. Worked my ass off. Stayed till 9 PM when everyone else went home at 5 PM. First things first, bought an engagement ring for my...
Buy them. You'll get the seller's contact info. If you're feeling saucy, you can go as far as to pay for them with paypal, receive them, then do a chargeback due to item not as described. They'll take his money and you'll get it back. Paypal HEAVILY favors buyers in disputes.
Welcome Matt- during the summer there are plenty of events within a reasonable driving distance (I am in the philly burbs). Shoot me an email if you want to meet up for some of them when the weather turns nice.
Re: What\'s it worth?
My best response seemed to be from Autotrader. Folks who found it there seemed to be "less educated" about the Viper market, and hence more prone to be willing to play ball at "premium price" levels.

Sorry dude, got several offers north of $35k for my pristine Gen I with identical extras but slightly higher miles... and that was in the dead of winter...
PS- I decided to keep it.
It didn't rain last year and it was great! A few friends hooked me up with outstanding accomodations last year- if I can get those again, I will definitely be there.
