I always wanted a big block, high HP/TQ car that was an open top. I really wanted a 427 AC Cobra in the late 80s/early 90s but couldn't afford it. I wanted a Viper when it first came out but the wait and markup was rediculous at first. So I bought a cherry #s matching 427x435 tripower Vette...
The ACR is a pnenominal car, especially on the track. You won't hit the car's limits for some time. If you can adjust the shocks to the 6 & 4 settings and have it lowered and track aligned in that order. You should blow away any street Porsche including the GT2 & GT3 :headbang:
With the stock 3.07s I'm coming off of 9 in 3rd gear, fairly high in the rpm range but with the better power band in the Gen 4 it works great. With the 2000 and my 3.55 gears I was coming out of 9 in 4th and hadda throw 5th in the front straight. You don't need 5th in the gen 4 touching around...
Carl have you taken David's car out on the track yet? I can tell you going from my 2000 to and '08 ACR was night and day. The Gen 4 gave me more confidence and consistantly faster laps. Considering my 2000 was set up similar to yours minus the shocks I think you'll be very happy, especially if...
I'm sorry I didn't mean to come off condesending. But when I heard track record and 2:05 I posted an observation. And it wasn't me that posted the 2:02, it was John Dearing my co-driver, I was at like 2:08 :crazy2: I haven't been to T-hill in a few years and I didn't know about all the work that...
That's not great, in 2003 at the OTC (Open Track Challenge) my co-driver and I turned a 2:02.xx on a stock motored, stock suspension 2002 GTS on Michelin MXXX tires (160 rating), Paul Mumford turned a 1:55.xx in a street Gen 2 on R3S03s, in Unlimited group.
BTW, it was with the 5a turn.
I usually go by treadwear rating to get a basic idea:
Michelin Pilot sports = 220 rating
Michelin Pilot Cups = 80 rating
Hoosier A/R3SO6 = 40 rating
Hoosier Race Slick = 00 rating
Obviously the lower the #, the softer the compound which equals more grip and less tire life.
.
My friend John Dearing got a blowout and put his 2002 GTS into the wall At California Speedway at 140 mph. He decided to make a track car of it and 6 months later he was running World Challenge GT in it. So yeah it can be done and that's a better starting car, plus you'll get a bunch of $$$ from...
The Hoosier R3S06 comes in a 345/19 for the stock wheels. I spoke with John Purner at CCW the other day about track wheels for the Gen 4 ACR. He has a nice black set of wheels for about $3K. 345/18 rears on a 18 x 13 wheel and 315/18 fronts on a 18 x 12 wheel. You'll need to get a e-brake...
LOL, yep I saw it also Dan. When we took the SoCal Viperclub to that NASA event at Willow Springs, the Vipers had their own group (probably to stop the bitching), but I ran Mark's ACR in HPDE 4 and I never saw such a bunch of whiney bitchs in my life. They run their track prepped cars for like 2...
A lot of the guys I know run Toyo RA1's on their track only Vipers. 335 rear and 275 front for 2 reasons, that's the tire & size Vipers Vipers run in the World Challenge GT and they last a long time. I don't know if that's changed in the last few years.
I run the ACR on PS Cup at 36 lbs hot front and back. Depending on the track start at 28 to 31 cold and adjust hot according to the abuse :D
Expect only 16 sessions or 4 track days according to how much abuse you dish out :D Personally I found the PS Cups to be a great tire, I actually ran my...
