Can you please be specific on the benefits of the sound deadening? I have rattles I would like to get rid of - will this help? If you put it in the doors will they close with a solid "thud"? Thanks for the input.
I have the same color and I went with sidewinders for 2 reasons: 1. They are much cheaper than the HREs and 2. I want to paint the centers black (like last years VCA car) and they have a natural break where you can stop the paint. Good luck.
ArlyDude - did you measure the temps on your sills with an IR thermometer? My SRT10 gets close to 200 degrees. I've always heard Gen I/II cars get hotter than Gen IIIs. Have other Gen II owners measured the temps of their sills? Thanks
I put Roe's insulation on my Gen III and then took it off. It does help keep the car cooler while it is running but it holds the heat in the sill (heat soak) much longer after the car is shut down. See...
Update: since nobody had a direct comparison between an exhaust with and without Roe insulation, I removed the insulation from one side and left the other side intact. (I know - I'm neurotic).
Both sides were cool immediately after aggressive driving. After 5 minutes the noninsulated side was...
I own a SRT10 with clear bra on the side sills. I am concerned about the temperature of my side sills and possible paint blistering similar to what occurred on some Gen I/II cars. After aggressive driving my side sills reach 185 degrees. Is this comparable to the temps on Gen I/II sills...
Thanks PatentLaw - a fan could be an easy solution.
I was reading the Gen I/II forum and some owners had sills that were in the 200 to 250 degree range. One owner reported 300 degrees! I would appreciate any Gen III owner reporting their sill temps and/or what sill temp they have heard is...
Well I broke down and bought an IR Thermometer ($50 at Pep Boys) and after some very spirited driving, the maximum temp on the outside of the sill (beside the 2nd cat) was 185 degrees and occured 15+/- minutes after turning off the car. It has been 45 minutes and it is still 165. I have the...
Thanks for the replies. Great idea Ulllose. Did you also measure the temps before you changed to the Corsa? Has anyone else measured the temps of their sills with a IR thermometer? I am going to buy a thermometer I would like to compare my readings to others with the same and different set...
Last year I had an exhaust leak in my Corsa track exhaust that caused paint blisters. I got the sill repainted (twice), new clear bra put on the entire sill (twice), and a new Corsa exhaust. I also wrapped the exhaust with Roe exhaust insulation - lots of the Gen 2 guys have used the wrap to...
Re: WELL BOYS...IT\'S BEEN FUN.....BUT I\'M DONE...FOR NOW
Great car. I drove it last summer and when the turbo kicks in - WOW. The handling is amazing. Are you going to track it? Ooley and Blackburn are class guys to deal with. They've had some nice Vipers too. Have fun, Doug
I've probably taken my sill off 10 times (exhaust heat problems...) and I didn't cut the plastic wheel liner or remove the wheel. Insert a long screw diver between the plastic liner and exterior panel beside the nut so you can "push" the liner back exposing the nut. There is an inner panel...
I talked Dan Cragin and he said he can program it for 91 or 93 octane. What did you guys do? We can get 93 in Indiana. Is there anything else besides removing the skip shift I need to worry about?
Zen garage - have you had a chance to put it through its paces? I'd to like to hear comments...
I painted mine myself with black semi gloss trim paint from the auto parts store. It looks like I knew what I was doing. See my photos. If you need a better picture of the rear only, just let me know. Good luck.
I read Carleton's recent post and the dyno showed he only gained 16 rwhp and 13 rwtq not the 30 and 25 suggested by Dan Cragin. Carleton has other mods - is this why he gained less than 30 and 25? Maybe Dan can explain the difference. Are you going to dyno your car soon? It will be...
I've heard the same thing. If true, I am wasting my time picking up small amounts of HP from exhaust, intakes, and computers unless I'm only interested in "bragging rights". If I spend money on modifications, I want to FEEL a improvement when I drive the car. I'd like to hear from others that...
As I consider additional modifications to increase horsepower, I wonder how much of an HP increase you need to really notice an improvement in performance? Some options are expensive for what you get. I have installed a K&N filter, Corsa catback and LW flywheel and I think the car is...
I'd like to hear from owners that have done the computer upgrade. Is there an obvious "seat of the pants" improvement in the throttle response? Thanks in advance.
Hi Steve: Eric (body shop) thought the corrosion occurred because the metal heat shield was touching the aluminum sill. They ground down the corrosion, filled the repair, primed/coated the back of the sill, reattached the heat shield and spot painted the sill. I've driven the car 4 times...
I have a silver SRT-10 with side sill corrosive spots. I have been told Gen I and II cars had similar problems so I am posting a question here. The 2 spots are about the size of dimes under the drivers door. They were repaired by the dealer but they have returned. Since they are out of site...
Dan: Thanks for the update. I really want a Paxton! If I plan to do a few track days/weekends a year, do I need the additional modifications you mentioned? Approximately how much do these modifications add to the cost of the stock system? Thanks in advance.
