I assure you that it was unusual to see more vipers than Z06's on your trip. I live in Michigan, travel often, and would say I ussually see about 4-5 Z06's for any Viper (GEN I thru III). I see Gen I's the least and probably equal number of Gen II and III. It will interesting to see what happens...
Misshift aside, what a great way to test new brakes WOT thru 2nd gear and hope it stops? Sorry to hear your story and glad you are enjoying the new Gen III.
Yes, it was possible to get under MSRP(several thousand). I did awhile ago. However, with the great reviews coming out and the significant number of orders already placed I don't know if its possible now. If you can find someone that can actually deliver your car and not just order it, then the...
www.roadandtrack.com has a photo of month snakeskin green/black stripes. Also if click on american cars, then dodge it brings up four other photos all snakeskin/black. All are great pics!! You can also purchase photos through there site.
Ron,
Glad to hear you made it home alright. We were thinking about you and your tires as it rained the entire time on us also. What a great time we had at Gingerman. Thanks to the Illinois club for having us we are looking forward to doing it again next year.
I checked with my dealer last night after seeing this, he looked up order and confirmed that it is "embroidered floormats and cover" he said the protection package on some other dodge products is indeed additional airbags but not on the viper. I hope he is right.
Am I the only one who thinks it may be possible for something else to be wrong. I would check things out and maybe dyno before mods. You had .2 sec quicker 60 ft. (1.8 to 2.0) times and then the Gen 2 ran you down on there way to a .6 sec faster quarter? I would agree with grip/tire issues...
Sent my reg in on monday. This will only be my second time at Gingerman, it is great fun. Anyone who has not tried this with their car is missing out on a awesome time.
I was under the impression that gearing on 08 was already going to be different than the 06. Higher red line will still get to 60+ in first and allow for more gear (62mph on current 06 w/stock gear). If diff. is the same is it possible the trans ratios will be different ???
I don't know of any shops in your area. I'm in Jackson and we have dealt with two dealers over the last several years that have good viper techs. Not really a performance shop for tuning or dyno but they can provide service and some upgrades to stock performance. Check with local dealers ask...
I had a chance to at MCVO autocross last weekend to compare an actual color sample to a saphire blue (2001 viper color) car. Very similar, in any kind of shadow the color looks almost black. When in bright sun the sample was definately violet. It is not anything like the 1960's plum crazy. Tons...
Agreed I think you will most likely see an 09 model year(same as 08 with possibly some minor changes like colors avail.). The big question is will new management continue developement/design of a true Gen. IV car? Time will tell.
boils down to cost. 08 will have greater power and some drivetrain improvements, it won't be available most likely until late fall and will cost most likely over 92k U.S.. An 06 coupe can be had now, good low mile examples in the low 70's and sometimes better.
