both tops will fit.
the only difference are the pins that fasten into the windshield frame.
the 95 pins are longer than the 96s. i currently have a 96 soft top on my 94.

my dash was all scratched up as well when i got it. this was one of the first things i did to the car. my radio surround bezel piece was cracked so i had to buy another. other than that black paint did the trick.

your options are quite simple:
1) keep taking it to Buhler & keep getting Buhler quality

2) take it to the WIZARD & he'll wave his magic wand :laugh:
