If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!! These days, in PROFESSIONAL racing where prize money is big and winning means providing income for your family, 90% plus are using sequential "paddle shifted" gearboxes! You won't find a F1 car, or an ALMS LMP1 / LMP2 car, or a IRL car, or Indy car, or Daytona Prototype car...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

And that's why you'll see TC in every single F1 car raced today, right? I mean, they certainly are considered - by waaaaay far - to be the very best drivers in the world, and the cars are considered by far the most technologically advanced in the world, so why would they want, as opposed to "not...

I didn't write it - I merely copied the article word for word. Take it up with the author.

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Ted, Please refer to post # 92 which has an article about the twin-clutch transmission being produced by Chrysler and Getrag which in part says: Chrysler Dual-Clutch Transmissions: Automatic Manuals - 79REM & 62TEM This transmission, whose development started around 1998, is now...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Well written again Phil. Good stuff. I like your analogy about ABS and TC - "think of TC as ABS in reverse". Some people are so hung up on the transmission issue. What's interesting -and I've said this in posts long time ago - is that when Ferrari (and probably others too, but being Tifosi I...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Yeah, I guess faster shifting and full "power on" through gear changes should NOT be considered as very important issues when building a sports car.

Yep. Well said. Again, well very spoken and I totally agree. The twin-clutch gearbox is very impressive. Thanks for your time in the explanation of the different gearboxes. :) Ferrari's gearbox (as others) have come a long way with each new model...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Many? Maybe, MAYBE a few listed, but no where near many. Keep in mind that most of the latest Vipers winning in top European championships were driven with fitted Sequential Gearboxes (ie, Oreca in the last Viper win at LeMans, etc.).

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

When racing the oval circuit, gear shifts are basically a non-paramount issue. Once the speed of the circuit is achieved, there's not much gear changing going on. However, what would the Viper be more in tune with: 1) a NASCAR based automobile (family sedan-ish)? 2) a road racing...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

So, how do you feel about all of the "racecars" that have sequential shifting transmissions - whether paddle or floor mounted stick? I suppose those cars are not "manly" racecars, right? Only redneck NASCAR is "manly" racing? Yeah, I guess there's no point in wanting faster shifts when NASCAR is...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Uhhh, I don't like the cookie cutter Vettes. I do like Gen III Vipers. I love Ferrari's - but I won't spend that kind of money on a car when it could be used for more important issues. I would like Vipers even more if there were a couple more "options". Others say that they would not like to...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

To answer the original question - YES! Without a doubt, I would. For those afraid that the Viper will somehow morph into a Vette simply because there is the "option" of having a Viper equiped with dual-clutch sequential shifting paddles - perhaps there should be removable floorboards with...

    2008 Transmission - Technical Question

With the 2008 transmission being a twin-disc system from the original single disc, would this make an easier transition from full manual stick to a sequential type shifting system - or does it not make any difference? I am looking for technical answers only - not personal thoughts about...

Two Viper teams in ALMS in 2008

Uhhh, I notice that the PRG car has the GT2 label - does this mean that they are planning on competing in GT2 class, which would NOT put them against the Vettes and hopefully the Aston Martin team? The GT1 class really needs some new blood, so I hope that the Vipers will be there and not GT2...

If A Paddle Shifting Transmission Was Available In 2009, Anyone Buying One?

Change has always been met with defiance; it's just human nature. I think that if it were offered as an "option", many here who say "no way" would eventually be saying, "Hmmm, well . . . maybe" within a couple of years after the introduction. It was the very same thing with Ferrari many...

are these the 08 viper colors ??

Maybe some of you forgot or never saw the color mock up's I did over two year's ago. They can all be seen in the "Media - Color Mock Up" section. As for the "baby blue", I think they nailed exactly what I was saying 2 years ago (was it that long ago? Flying time). Not a "baby blue", but a...

What do you guys want to see in 08?

Okay, I offered my opinion, knowing that most (here at least) would disagree. However, the question was open-ended to any responders. As far as racing with these transmissions go, it would be F1, WRC, German Touring Car, ALMS, Champ Car, Rolex Series, WTCC, FIA GT (1 & 2), LeMans (all...

What do you guys want to see in 08?

SMG style paddle shift AS AN OPTION. Did I say "AS AN "OPTION"? Yes. An Option. OP-SHUN. OP-SHEE-UN. Pay a couple G's more OP-SHEE-UN Paddle Shift, no more clutch pedal mess but still manual shifting OP-SHEE-UN Paddle Shift-un. Diamler has the technology through F1, ect. and Chrysler has it...

New wheels what do you all think ...

Absolutely hidious!!! At least that paint job. It looks too low as well. Lowered is better, but maybe with 20's it looks like the car is too much on top of the wheels, although it's probably just been lowered too far for my taste. Maybe those wheels would look great if they were simply...

    Paddle Shift

Like I said, the R & D would not be outragious since there have already been "paddle shift" transmissions used in racing Vipers. Larbre Competition was one team. Oreca I believe was the other, which incidentally, DC/Oreca did announce 2 months ago that Oreca would be piloting Vipers in...

    Paddle Shift

Hence the reason why I said that Vipers are more a "track" car than a "traffic" car. It's a suck car to try to enjoy on a daily basis to & from the office while fighting traffic on I-10/I-95 every morning and evening, off to dinner or enjoying the company of a date while fighting the damned...

    Paddle Shift

Dang, I think we should write for Motor Week (well maybe moreso you than I). Very well written Sir. I concur on your facts concerning Ferrari and its F1 system. When first introduced, the Ferrari Tifosi flat out refused to acknowledge such a contraption; they hated its whole notion. Now it's...
