My 96 GTS has the same. Seems odd since that has got to be plastic. Definitely looks loke a bubble, though! About half dollar size. I don't tap on it. LOL
It does have the concentric ring on the both sides. I talked to Chuck Tator and he suggested I try swapping the rotors to eliminate that as a possibility. Rotors look rusty on the edges but show no damage. I got the two main bolts off the first calipers and stripped the bolt that holds the brake...
I went ahead and had them swap the front tires left to right, kept the wheels where they were and rebalanced to see if the vibration moved left to right.. Still a vibration on the left side. No sign of damage or repair on either wheel. The tire guy said the left front Forgeline had a "runout"...
I have a vibration in the left front of my 96 GTS that begins at about 65 and gets progressively worse as speed increases. I had the front wheels balanced, and this actually seemed to make the vibration a litttle worse. I took it back and they said the wheel/tire is spot on on the spin...
Re: Anybody move from 17" to 18" wheels for tire cost and availability; not appearanc
I went from 17's to 18"s to use MT ET Street drag radials. 345/35/18.
No big deal. I have seen cars for sale with worse hood gaps on e-bay.
The original owner of my 96 GTS had a lady back into the car in a parking lot when the car was just a few days old and 150 miles on the clock. Bunged up the right front wheel and cracked the hood over the right front wheel...
I did this to my 94 8 years ago and it ended up costing about 4K. I was stupid to buy a Viper in FL without A/C. I had no idea how much heat the engine would pass to the passenger compartment.
I gave an A/C place the parts list and they bought all the parts new and installed. I could have...
Has anyone done a comparison of the worth of a typical Gen 1 verses parted out value. With these things going regularly for $25,000, I can see them being parted out if prices get any lower.
With a current value of:
Engine $3,500
Transmission $1,000
Rear end $500
Wheels and Tires $1,000
Hood...
That is a bad gear to lose as it is all you really need in a Viper. It will take of pretty smoothly from a dead stop in 3rd and also run up to about 120. Torque is an amazing thing!
Gen 1 black? My original 94 dash was grey and the replacement was grey also.
The windshield surround on my 94 is black and I have touched it up with Plasti-Cote flexible bumper and trim color #1895 semi gloss black spray paint with good results. Same color as at the base of the windshield...
Maybe Dodge could reduce their manufacturing costs and improve their profit margin by $10,000, reduce Viper owner insurance rates and eliminate paint flex crack issues by elimination of the clamshell hood? I hate mine every time I work on the engine.
I talked to the original owners of both my Vipers and got useful information from both. Both seemed to enjoy knowing what had happened with their car. One said he had the original window sticker and would send it to me but he never did.
I justified buying the two I own to the wife as great long term investments, but I think even she has caught on to that. But on the other had, she justifies her art purchases to me as long term investments and I definitely have caught on to that.
