    carbon fiber tempurature threshholds

That's a good point that I didn't consider. While carbon fiber itself doesn't burn (it's interesting to look up the government's Material Safety Data Sheet on it), the resins definitely have different temperature ratings. As an example, I found a carbon fiber hood for the NSX in which different...

Comp Coupe #18 Waiting to be Painted

Geez, who wrote the text? Seeing it "hear" first? I'd say you won't see many because they didn't MAKE many and it isn't exactly suited to daily driving. I don't live in a particularly rich city, and I see $125K cars all the time. Not a GTS, either. Oh well. Still, it's cool, I haven't seen one...

91 gets the Fast & Furious treatment

Excellent. That always bugged me about the Daytona "replica" Vipers... they weren't very authentic. I could do without the "V10 GTS" on the nose, though.

    RT10 rear window

I believe major parts are supposed to be available for something like 7 years after production ends. I think this is a federal law for any mass-produced automobile.

    carbon fiber tempurature threshholds

Carbon fiber can withstand extremely high temperatures, and it does not burn. However, it isn't something that can be applied as a coating. It's sort of like fiberglass -- its "natural state" is a sheet of fibers woven in various patterns (different patterns provide different strength...

    Wheel well clearance measurement

Thanks Dean, hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll finally get the last of that Pecos asphalt out of there, LOL.

Smokin some vipers at Road Atlanta [video]

I almost got wood watching that. God I love Road Atlanta. Awesome video, thanks for posting the link.

    Wheel well clearance measurement

Thank you David. Chuck -- you already know. ;) (God I hate these new smileys... they're so f*cking... SMILEY.)

    GTS Intake Question

Sorry to say, the NACA duct doesn't do anything useful on the Viper -- a regular old opening would do just as well. Basically a NACA duct's purpose is to scavenge boundary-layer airflow without introducing additional drag. It does this by gradually creating a low pressure area using a ramped...

    Wheel well clearance measurement

I have an unusual request -- would somebody with stock 18" rims and Michelin Pilots please measure the vertical clearance between the tire and the inside of the splash shield at the location marked by the X below? That's the passenger side, in line with the last ridge for the water-bottle...

    Rear brake caliper piston tool

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to the dealership for a bunch of stuff this afternoon, I'll order the tool. I just assumed it would be one of those Toyota-style $2200 wrenches or something like that. Chuck, I could have sworn I didn't see you use this tool at Sebring. My brother agrees... but...

After market baffle free air box

3500 miles would be more than a little obsessive-compulsive.

    Rear brake caliper piston tool

I was going to change my rear brake pads (rears are stock) tomorrow afternoon, but I see this big boldface warning in the service manual that refers to a special (undoubtedly expensive) piston compression tool. The warning states if you don't use this tool "the brake caliper will be destroyed"...

Just a question about the v-10

Actually HP is exactly right. There was a long, very detailed article about it in the October 2000 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. If you're extremely masochistic, they even have the relevant calculations. You can figure the exhaust gas velocity range of your exhaust system, as well as predict the...

Please tell me how to turn when driving on the street.

Chuck is wise. The red ones are quite a bit slower, and consequently are easier to handle. Just don't add a wing, it tends to attract tire walls.

    GTS Intake Question

Conical filters suck too much hot air from the engine bay. Hot air = lost HP. The baffle question comes up periodically and if I recall correctly, verifiable horsepower gains have never been clearly demonstrated. If you drive in the rain, don't do it.

    Dumb RT/10 question...........

If you've ever assembled/disassembled the soft top, you'd know it won't fit. The soft top barely fits into the trunk folded into thirds, and it's the same size as the hard top (for a hopefully obvious reason).

    Reliability Questions....

I dunno about F355's experience, but after 27K miles, I wouldn't say my Viper is a beast to drive, not by a long shot. My wife -- who never drove any sports car prior to the Viper -- drives it all the time and loves it. She babys it, but there was never a complaint about it being difficult to...

    Weight-distributing trailer hitch

Tony & Alan are correct, I was trying to remove the bars from the hitch portion. I'll give both methods a try. Thanks!

Picture Of A 2001 Dodge Viper GTS ACR That Blew Up

Not if you saw the original, which was much larger. WreckedExotics.com seems to have gotten ahold of a severely downsized version. Somebody mentioned last year's PSF fire. I found the pix I posted. Might as well gawk at the real thing. :)

    Dumb RT/10 question...........

No, it's a cover, not a top. It stretches from the trunk area, over the top, and down over the windshield. Which I think is why ViperJoe said "it's opaque". :)

    What I wouldn't give for a T-Top GTS??

Re: What I wouldn\'t give for a T-Top GTS?? If you look at the description for the replacement part, it's actually referred to as a "toupette".

    Weight-distributing trailer hitch

The last time I used my trailer, I decided to try the weight distributing hitch which the previous owner included when I bought the trailer. It hooked up easily enough, although I didn't feel any significant difference pulling the car (my truck is a quite heavy 2500 series) and that hitch...

    Dumb RT/10 question...........

Assuming you mean the Mopar one, the cockpit cover will hold up to a very, very heavy all-day rainstorm as long as it's properly attached (very taut, with windows up). Mine regularly endures mid-day Florida showers without incident. As long as you keep it well Scotchguarded, you can just...

Picture Of A 2001 Dodge Viper GTS ACR That Blew Up

That's a well-known (and quite old) Photo Shop job. Somebody sends me the link from wreckedexotics.com every few months. I've complained to the guy who runs the site -- he's usually good at removing fakes -- but for some reason he insists on keeping this one. The car that burned last year due...
