The starter was shot, the car is fine now. I would bring it to an Oriely's and have them check:
1. Battery
2. Alternator (should be fine from the sounds of it)
3. The CCA the starter pulls upon startup
I would guess you have a bad battery due to the symptoms you described. The kicker...
One of my vipers was missing the same floormat and I realized why when I picked up the second viper. The thing didn't stay in place. At the gas station 5 miles from picking up the car, the drivers floormat moved to the trunk ;) Where is it, don't know, don't care.
Buy the key on ebay and get them cut at the local hardware store (not menards or HD as their machines suck). I definitly wouldn't use that key again, get another for now. Would suck to get stuck at the mall as the key broke.
I just istalled a set of 888s on my gen2.5 wheels. Was going to hit the track sunday morning but forgot my dam helmet an hour away.
May go wednesday but prob not as rain is expected...
Ok, just got off the phone with Sean and apparently it wasn't burned onto my CD... He said to email him and he will send it but he is a few days back on email. Guess I can't dyno tune then...
Looking at the wiring diagrams in my manual, it is probably a bad starter. The + wire on the battery goes to the starter, another wire is attached to the same connection on the starter, then run to the jumper post.
The battery tests fine but when the power gets to the jumper post the batter...
Wend and got a new battery and the problem was still there. Car idled for 15 mins, drove 15 minutes away, and wouldn't start.
Went to Oriely's to do some diagnostic work. Alternator tested fine, new batt tested dead off the port on the side of the engine. Went back to the battery and it...
^^^ I didn't know about it so didn't ask. Reason I didn't ask for a copy of the document was that he said it was on the CD and I didn't look at it until a week later.
I may hit up the dyno tomorrow. Car dynoed previosly at 460 rwhp but seemed down on power at the track (only trapping 113...
My 93 RT came with a VEC 3 and the instruction CD. I emailed Sean Roe about something and asked if there was a VEC for dummies document ever made. He said there is a 28 page word doc on the disc.
I can only find a 6 page doc which talks about logging and the sensors.
Does anyone have the...
It is probably legit. I see no reason that a scammer would bring up the AC issue if they weren't questioned. Seems like an honest seller.
Interested to know if it was an option though...
Maybe I will grab it out of my other viper. Benefit of having 2 ;) I was 100% sure it was the batt and stunned when it wasn't. Battery should be 770 CCA anyhow, I will just try the other and see if that solves it.
Thanks, I will try both of those. One of my friends thinks it is the starter but my experience has been the starter gear wears out or the contats on the solonoid have gone bad. Hoping to look at it tonight.
I would love to and voted Yes above. I drive mine about 50% now only because I have a 100+ mile round trip everyday. I may be moving soon and have been thinking that the viper will be my only car in the non-winter months of MN. I can usually park away from people and love driving it.
I...
It is slowely spinning like it is dead. I brought the battery to another place and it also checked fine on the way home last night.
Installed it again, took a bit but the car started. Ran for a few minutes and left it. Went out today and not enough power to start.
I was thinking...
Also check the alarm fuse. That bastard can go out quite often. Does the alarm honk or not? If not, the fuse is most likely shot.
Low batt will turn alarm on. Not sure why but it does.
^^^^ Wheeeeew. The car I just purchassed has the Team Tech 6 point with the pad (purchassed from JonB). Haven't wore it yet but now I feel a little more confident.
I am experiencing some charging and or battery issues. Was working on my Gen 1 the past coupld of nights (install nitrous) and went to take it to the track the other day and the batt was dead. Push started it, drove 2.5 hours to the track. Got there, swapped wheels, car didn't have enough...
hmm.... I checked my manual and it called the center wire (red/blk I think) the output wire so that is the one I used. It is used to check the TPS, I would assume the others are power and ground... I will know for sure when I test my controller in a couple of days.
Thanks,
John
