now HERE's a bad tuner experience!

Re: now HERE\'s a bad tuner experience! I just couldn't help it! Ben's been a great customer, and I knew he wouldn't mind a little ribbing. Now I'm just waiting for him to get me back. Remember, I'm going grey already, so don't make it happen any faster!

    Airbox or cone filters?

You'd be hard-pressed to beat your current setup in terms of hp. I'd stick with it.

    NOS on the street

Ben, when are you going to take it to Sears for some drag strip runs. I want to be there to see the efforts of all our hard work!

    Patching Hoosiers

I don't recommend patching a race tire. At the speeds Vipers are capable of, it'd be a shame to lose the car because a patch comes apart and the tire deflates. Tires are cheap compared to a new car...

    Above Ground Lifts

I did a lot of research before buying my lifts, and all the shops I talked to said Benwil and BendPak weren't the best choice for my application. Their major complaints weren't necessarily for overall quality but for customer service when something _did_ break. As a shop owner, it's important...

    Above Ground Lifts

I've never heard of Western, but Benwil isn't a very good brand. All of the lifts I've purchased are by Rotary, and I wouldn't consider anything else. Yes, they're more expensive, but they're well worth it.

    Fast LS1 Firebird!

For those of you in Ontario, Canada, watch out for this guy in his LS1 Firebird! It's an automatic, no less! http://www.rapidmotorsports.com/427%20CI%20Build.htm Running 9.51 is nothing to sneeze at!

BTR Cones vs Smooth Tubes & Stock Box

We did extensive dyno testing on air filter/airbox combinations about six months ago. (This was all performed on the same '97 GTS on the same day, with comparable coolant temperatures.) The K&N carbon fiber airbox lost 5hp, hood up or down, compared to the stock, unmodified airbox with our K&N...

Anyone use AMSOIL @gears,good for 10th!

We use Amsoil oil, filers, tranny fluid, and gear lube exclusively. It's excellent stuff and really keeps things cool, cutting down on frictional losses. That in and of itself will help increase hp, therefore reducing quarter mile times. 1/10 sec. in the quarter is pretty hard to measure...

    Clutch

Yes, our dual Kevlar clutch is more durable, lasting approximately 50% longer than a typical organic Viper clutch. Of course, it depends how you drive the car, but it _will_ certainly outlast a stock Viper clutch.

    New exhaust - dyno results

Good point that Sean makes. Also, make sure your throttle bodies are opening up all the way. Take off the tubes going to the throttle bodies and manually open the throttle (with the engine off!). The butterflies should be parallel to the ground, unless the car's standing on end.

T&D Rockers: Should I replace pushrods?

I always recommend changing the pushrods when doing the T&Ds. We use beefy Comp Cams chromoly pushrods.

    RPM Window Switch

I'm not sure if MSD sells directly to the public or not. We sent in our box, and they modified it for like $65. It took about 10 days, even though I sent it Next Day Air there and back. Call them and ask what you should do. Good luck!

    Clutch

Eddie, we offer a dual Kevlar clutch that can handle over 800hp and 10k rpm. It engages just like the stock clutch and won't chatter. If you're interested in pricing, send me an e-mail at '[email protected]'

    RPM Window Switch

It's not that simple. The switches should work on 4-, 6-, or 8-cylinder engines but have to be modified to work on 10-cylinders. Hence the special 2-cylinder operation. I know of no window switch that'll work out-of-the-box with the Viper.

    Catalytic Converters (2001 or 2002)

I agree with JonB. I'd recommend doing headers (we use Belanger) and maybe a cat-back (we use Corsa (for a few more hp)) before replacing the cats. Only higher-hp and higher mileage cars will benefit enough from high-flow cats to warrant the cost. And high-flow cats will be louder as well. We...

    Nitrous Express 100-300hp shot, $750?...

AFR of 7:1? That's so rich, I'm surprised the car even made any power. Our dyno's lowest AFR value is 10:1, as anything below that needs to be fixed instantly to keep the car from fouling the plugs. Are you sure it was 7:1?

    RPM Window Switch

Jegs is like Summit--if your question isn't about a late 60's Chevy, their standard reply is "Sure, it'll work!" The RPM window switch is from Mallory? Or is it MSD? If it's from Mallory, it's most likely made by MSD anyway. It won't work in its current configuration. It will have to be...

More Viper Photo Phun (photos, of course)

For some reason, seeing your car parked in front of the hotel reminded me of the scene in Beverly Hills Cop where Axel pulls up in his beat-up Nova and tells the valet, "Put this somewhere nice. All this sh*t happened last time I parked here." Ha! Hope it doesn't happen to you!!

CCW 16" rear drag wheels w/ '01 rear calipers

CCW 16\" rear drag wheels w/ \'01 rear calipers As you all know, the '01s use a different rear caliper, and the CCW 16" wheels simply won't fit. (The 17" wheels will fit with a little banjo bolt head filing.) With Ben as the guinea pig, we modified the caliper itself, and the wheels now spin...

    Purner 16" drag wheel questions

Re: Purner 16\" drag wheel questions The issue is not the rotor or the ABS, it's the banjo bolt that holds the brake line to the caliper. We should have the caliper issue worked out next week. I'll let you all know probably by next Wednesday...

    Purner 16" drag wheel questions

Purner 16\" drag wheel questions We're installing a set of Purner's 16" rear drag wheels on Ben's '01 RT/10. We know that the '01 banjo bolts needs to be cut down to clear the wheel, but we don't want to go too far and compromise the strength of the bolt. We shaved off almost all the head...

    Disappointing Dyno Results - Help!

Mark, we've found that the Vipers are _very_ sensitive to heat-soaking on the dyno. Last week, I bought a $500 high-velocity fan that blows basically right into the radiator opening, just to keep the coolant temperatures down where they belong. Vipers can lose as much as 20-30hp because of...

    Skip Shift Feature RT/10

I agree with everyone else. Skip-shift, annoying as it is in low speed in traffic, isn't much of an issue. We sell the Skip Shift Defeat wiring harness for $34, and it takes about 15 minutes to install. It's one of those "if the car's up in the air, I may as well install it" type of things...

    New fly wheel installed today!

An aluminum flywheel decreases rotating mass, allowing the motor to spin up faster. Picture you trying to lift a heavy item vs. a lighter item. You can lift the lighter item faster than the heavier item, because it takes less effort. Same thing with trying to spin a flywheel.
