It will discolor over time but just go ahead and replace it when it happens. It's much better than getting the scratches and rock chips if you leave it unprotected.
Baer's Alcon calipers are great and comparable to the Brembos and Stoptechs. The six piston that Baer sells will be more expensive because it's a bigger system though I doubt that it would get you a whole lot, if any improvement over the 4 pistons without finding a way to get some rear brake...
Service at Timberline Dodge is EXCELLENT based on my experience and from many others. Besides that, ask Viper owners around the Portland/Vancouver area which dealership supports VCA events and has the closest ties to DC (Timberline). Ask them which Viper Tech has the most experience in that area...
NorCal and SoCal Viper owners:
If you want to do this again, there is an Oct. 12 Thunderhill Event. This time they will run the Cyclone instead of the bypass. If you are interested contact Cory to apply.

Silver Viper,
You are not the first to have experienced this at Butler-Conti Dodge. About 2 years ago, I had recently moved back to the Bay Area and was staying temporarily in an apartment located less than a mile from that dealership. I went there to try to get a simple oil change and I got...
The kwikload factory swivel d-ring locations are fine for the Viper. I have heard of some owners locating them differently (farther) to make sure they have enough room for the ratchet and avoid scratching the underneath of the front fascia when you need to release it. Mine are are in the default...
Got a 97 Viper that was originally built for delivery to MI. I first had the emissions cert in Oregon. Moved to CA and no problem passing emissions there either.
Mabuhay !
elanderholm,
There is no other place in Portland than Timberline Dodge. Talk to Viper Tech Ken Klickman for service. These people will treat your car well. They also are big supporters of the Viper Club, often coming to PIR to support the members. Search the site for previous posts and see what...
You should give it around 3 days. I don't worry about leaving the car there. As Toddt says, Dublin Dodge's Keith and John will take care of it. If DC is listening, it's dealers like these that make me comfortable buying Dodge products again and again and again.
Jeff, glad you were okay. I hope you get that fixed before Sep. 20. I met a Viper owner in your neck of the woods who has a Venom 650 with a flawless paint job. Email me and I will give you his contact info so you can ask him for some suggestions.
Ron,
Stock vipers are measured around 90+ db. I have a borla exhaust and put in Ted May's exhaust plugs which are turned 90 degrees away from the sound station but still had to keep it around 4000 rpm when I passed them to avoid the black flag.
Bwright,
Great patient reasonable response. I am not blown away by the SRT-10 design and in general convertibles but I like the technical improvements. And I don't think you are on crack
This thread was supposed to be a unique kill story
Hello Dean,
I have never used the PFCs on the stock calipers. I run the 4 Piston Alcons from Baer (Alcon B type I think) and use Wilwood Dynalites on the rear. I used to buy my PFC pads from Baer Racing until about 2 years ago when they were having problems stocking them. I then bought a couple...
Performance Friction has several compounds, I have not tried all of them but have tried the 93,90, 01, and 99. I use the 93 for the front and 90 for the rear. 01 is supposed to replace the 93 and 99 replaces the 90. If you do not have plans to heavily track your car then I would use the 90 in...
Ken from Timberline has a bit of a problem. He thinks that Vipers in his shop are actually his cars. What a delusionary character ! You have not even seen the cordon he uses to keep the cars off limits to looky loos or the special underground parking for Vipers.
There were no cracks in the front or the rear [maybe I need to push harder at the track :-) ] but the rears required the differential and the exhaust removed for the brace to be installed. And before I forget, I got a call on SUNDAY at 9:30pm from John working on the car asking if I wanted to...
You usually see a lot of negative posts about dealers so I just wanted to post something positive for a change. I had scheduled my car for the recall and brought it in last week after being told that the recall parts had arrived. I had a conversation with John, the Viper tech a few days before...
Hi Will,
I have the PRO+ Baer Alcons on the fronts. I have had no problems with it. The caliper is built really well and I like the fact that I can get Performance Friction pads for it. For non mechanical types like me, I also like the fact that I take out one bolt and I can change pads. The...
2.04 on street tires is awesome for the Viper and under 2 minutes is a big difference. I wonder if a pro that is familiar with the Viper can go under 2 minutes? Where is Tommy Archer ?
Howdy Jason.
Socal, I have seen this lip on a rear aftermarket caliper that was mounted in such a way that a portion of the pad was positioned just past the outermost diameter of the rotor. Obviosly the wear will cause that lip to form. It isn't a big deal except that optimally you want to use...
