    Gasoline Octane?

In my opinion it works this way: If you have a later Viper, it's equipped with knock sensors, so your engine is probably safe. However, the way this works is by detecting knock, it then retards ignition timing, which reduces power and effienciency, resulting in reduced mileage. So you will...

Seat Belt Mounting Hole on Transmission Tunnel

First off, you won't find a hole as there is a bolt in the hole, feel for a bolt head. Also check straight up a couple inches above the seat mounting stud and that's where it'll be. Regards, Mike Dolan

    help shifting

One solution I have been espousing (hoping someone will implement it), is to re-program the engine controller. The engine management computer controls the 1-4 shift lockout solenoid. Lot's of folks want to disable this, but my idea is quite the opposite. Have the solenoid engage when...

    Mp3 Player

Sure, Chrysler sells a great Ipod interface that's designed to work with the radio in your Viper. It works with both the stock radio & the RB1. Shows information on the radio display & lets you control it from the car radio. Not too expensive either. If you need more information, let...

got a ticket in cali higways over 100 ph

My daughter got a ticket for 115+ about a month after she first got her license. First was only a $90 fine, but after a while DMV sent her a letter suspending her license for 6 months. The Vehicle code for 100+ is different than for anything below 100. Your insurance company doesn't see how...

Funny Dealer Story, I'm still laughing

Re: Funny Dealer Story, I\'m still laughing Well when I first looked at the Viper I climbed in and asked where the switch was to move the pedals back. The salesman told me that only came on the Vipers that had automatic transmissions. I didn't buy from him, another dealer seemed a bit more...

    Need ownership advice

I also daily drive a Viper, in fact I have put over 20,000 miles on it in the first year. However we live in a mostly rural area, and as much as I love driving the Viper, if it was going to slog through hours of rush hour traffic like in LA, one of our Jags would be pressed into service. As...

Will the RB1 and/or RB4 NAV head units work in an 05 viper?

They go right in. My '05 has the RB1 which I think is a better unit than the RB4. (I could be wrong on this, check them both out & decide) The install is simply plug & play, not issues at all. The antenna can be placed anywhere inside the dash, mine is stuck to the top of the radio...

    1" Lowering Instructions

Re: 1\" Lowering Instructions John, It's pretty easy, you will need 13mm & 15mm sockets, and a long extension. My memory is fuzzy on this, but I think you'll need a T50 torx to remove the seatbelt conector. Check this out as I am not really sure, sorry my memory isn't better. Slide the...

Viper Days - Looking for Advice

I have been to a couple of Viper Days events, as well as other track events, and all I can say is DO IT!!!! Like you, I was apprehensive before my first event, but after that experience, I have been back at every opportunity. My intention before attending the first event was to learn how to...

    Introduction and a couple questions

In my opinion, the Viper is one of the few supercars you can actually drive regularly. Since purchasing mine new in Feb of this year, I have put almost 19,000 miles on it. No problems, no worries. Oh, and throw in 9 or 10 track days to boot. Try that in an Italian exotic, and you would be...

    Top Gear review: Viper SRT-C

Well you know a lot of this boils down to attitude & values. For example, it is easy to compare European high performance cars and conclude they are more sophisticated, with refinements such as double overhead cams and consider the American iron as agricultural with pushrods etc.... But then...

    Satellite radio installation?

cuhead wrote a really nice note detailing how he did it, and the issues he encountered, do a search for his post and you will glean a lot of useful information on that subject.

    Question about Steering pulling

My '05 did it (I think it's called 'tramlining') when it was new, but now it's quite stable. I think the biggest difference was after a couple track sessions rounded the outer edge of the front tires. I now have a bit over 18,000 miles on the originals and really like the way the car tracks -...

    dash/console removal question

To remove the e-brake piece, you are correct, it just pops off. The dash panel needs the allen screws to be removed, and then the electrical connectors unplugged. Unplugging the wiring harnesses is tight, but you can get back there and reach the connector release pins with your fingers.

What is the history of warranty claims due to hard use?

A friend and I were on the track at Thunderhill recently when his transmission broke. Pretty serious failure, as the case was ruptured and it dumped oil all over the place. The car was taken to a dealer on a flatbed, and the Tranny was replaced under warranty, no problems. Also the dealer WAS...

    2004 SRT-10 at invoice - opinions?

I bought a new '05 back in Feburary and paid 72,500. Today I would expect an '05 to be about 5,000 less, and an '04 even less than that. The moment you own it, it's an '04, not new. If you went to sell it, people would consider it 3 years old, not new, the fact you just bought it wouldn't...

    I'm a 2007 Z06 owner & I want a Viper.....

Re: I\'m a 2007 Z06 owner & I want a Viper..... Goldie, Although the Z06 is technically quicker than the Viper, at the performance levels these cars are capable of, the driver makes a huge difference. As an example, my first track time was at Buttonwillow last spring. Rookies like me were...

    Alignment Adjustments-Newbie Question

I think the issue is the tires. My car had the same issue when new, it wanted to follow the lines in the road, and would seem to even sense a shadow on the road. Once I got some miles on the tires, particularly track time that took off a bit of the sharp edge on the shoulders, the problem...

A little surprised at Insurance costs.....

I had AAA, and their price was quite reasonable. Now I have coverage through American National Insurance. It costs $483 for 6 months here in Calif. The primary reason I changed is that my new agent is a fellow Viper owner & personal friend. Of course it's higher than some other cars, but...

Shift from 3rd to 2nd at 5500 RPM

What I want to see is a change in the engine management program that engages the 1-4 shift lockout. If this were to engage when the vehicle speed is too high, you wouldn't be able to make this mistake. It's a simple software mod that would increase the safety margin with no incremental cost to...

    Battery dead? HELP NEEDED NOW!!!

My battery also went out in a couple of months, with only a couple thousand miles on the car - '05 Vert. It's under warranty, so although it's a minor hassle, it isn't anything to lose sleep over either. Regards, Mike Dolan

    stability control

You are correct V10_ICBM, but the likely offset will be the people who drive harder, confident that stability control will bail them out. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting they are not good things, just that my impression is accidents will still happen, and although there will certainly...
