Why did ACRs never have special engines?

-Viper program was much smaller in both production numbers and especially budget. -There never has been a "base" model Viper like Corvette or Porsche does. Corvette has models like Z06, ZR1 etc. to compete at or above what Viper does across the entire platform. -The V10 in it's own right is...

    Stupid question about water pump

Thanks for that heads up. Never liked the price of first born child to get a water pump rebuilt. I figure it's in the cards for a rebuild at some point in the near future.

Low mileage cars and 'fixing' issue

I had the same issue so I tucked my sensor in rather than remove it. It is out of site out mind, and I can find different struts in the future. For now they are perfectly functional.

Looking for OEM HVAC control knobs

Maybe someone else can confirm, but they look to be the same as Ford E series (econoline vans) of similar year groups. Dorman also sells a replacement of the same hvac knob. Wouldn't be surprised as our light switches are out of a Ford from what I recall.

Looking for OEM HVAC control knobs

Almost certain they Chrysler parts bin. Probably the same they put in jeeps or mini vans.

Low mileage cars and 'fixing' issue

Being a pre smart phone and high-speed internet car, I find that a lot of information about older Vipers has become lore at this point. Randos buying an old GTS won't know the difference and most dealers will know even less. All of that being said, people wanting clean examples and willing to...

    1 of 60 2002 Viper plaque

A little more info about the car it's in might help narrow it down. I've seen factory plaques in 98 GT2 cars, 99-02 ACRs, 02 Final Edition cars, Hennessy Venom cars of gen 2 GTS years, and even the first 99 GTS ACR rolled off the line to Ron Wade with his own custom ACR console plaque. Not...

Figuring out gen 2 vehicle color, anyone have any ideas?

https://fcagroup.my.site.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing Punch the VIN in here, should pull up a build sheet that lists the color.

You guys are going to hate me but…

Uh...wow, when you said project, you meant project. I've built a handful of classics that started life like that. Should be a fun build, keep us posted as you go.

DE-Supercharging a Viper? How big of a task is this?

If it is a centrifugal supercharger it is not a monumental task. You will need to get the car tuned afterwards to ensure proper running. If it is a ROE supercharger, also not a difficult task if you are mechanically inclined. You will need to install the factory intake manifold after removal of...

Value Question 2002 Viper GTS ACR Final Edition

Low $90s is probably a safe bet. Some people might add value for it being an abs and final edition car if that matters to them. There have been plenty of ACR'S for sale as of late, and the ones heading into six figure territory have sat for a long time. Reality of these cars is most people who...

New Viper owner, some concerns after fresh maintenance items…

Possibly an injector issue. If it is dumping excessive fuel that can burn up a cat.

    96 GTS recommendations for resonators

Might want to focus more on the mufflers or mufflers and resonators. My car has resonators with no cats, and originally no mufflers. At some point later Flowmaster outlaws were welded in. My car does sound great with resonators and aggressive mufflers, but she does drone. I'm sure that not all...

You guys are going to hate me but…

My $.02, I'll champion bringing a Viper back from the dead. Your drive train choice makes the most sense given the nature of both car and budget. Majority get bent out of shape when things like this happen to clean cars, not rehabbing a car that had been long written off. Good luck in your...

    Radiator leak

I don't have an aluminum radiator, but many on this forum do. The general consensus from what I've read is that they work well. Not sure which brands people prefer, but I doubt you'd be disappointed going aluminum if it's a quality piece at a better price. You won't need to change out anything...

The Birth of the Viper and How It Went Racing

Always thought the birth of the Viper and later it's storied race program would make a great movie. Amazing how many people think Ford's race program is the only U.S. race car to win Le Mans.

    Radiator leak

There are radiator shops that can take and recore yours with a 3 core as opposed to the factory 2 core. You'd have to call around and see if the going rate makes sense compared to an aftermarket solution. Either way will be an upgrade to factory cooling.

    Intermittent whirring sound

Depending on what you think groaning sounds like, could be wheel bearings. Other groaning can be power steering pump.

    Intermittent whirring sound

If it's the tensioner or idler pully, they are readily available and won't cost you an arm and a leg. Both are very doable in your home garage as well.

    AC blowing hot under acceleration

I have plenty of popcorn for this lol. Learning plenty about how these systems work. The extent of my understanding was replace o-rings, then replace the one nobody talks about, then top of the AC again. 2nd gen (GTS) for reference.

Loose harmonic balancer AND crank pulley

Sorry to hear the rough news with all the effort you have put into your GTS. Look forward to hearing about the fix.

What did you do to your viper today?

That cost of supplies to take the clear off, buff it out, reapply clear, then ceramic coat it would have put me most of the way towards the cost of powdercoating it. The "chrome" poweder coat I was shown has a satin quality to it giving it just a little more shine than polished OEM. Close enough...
