    Help: Strange restart problem

Yesterday I had the car out for drive and then stopped in to get gas. After I filled it up, I started the car. The car acted very strangely in that the idle was at or below the 500RPM mark and pressing in the accelerator several times did nothing. I heard a noise that sounded like gears not...

    How long will gasoline last?

I was just wondering how long gas can be kept in reasonably good condition without use of gas stabilizers. Secondly, how long will it go with stabilizer added?

    Door opens by itself

If that is not it, my problem was the microswitch for the door open button. The door would open by itself or when it did close I could do a "Fonzy" by hitting it lightly at the bottom and it would open.

    Tire age issues??

A couple of us Northwesterners had 97s with low mileage original tires. Here are the differences we saw by going with new ones: 1. The car doesn't follow grooves in the road hardly at all - big difference 2. The car doesn't hydroplane as easily 3. The car has more grip on dry pavement 4. We...

    Door lock problem

I have had 2 door problems other than the wire problem. 1. The microswitch to open the door was intermittant - that's inside the pushbutton used to open the door. You can test this in conjunction with 2. below. 2. The latch mechanism had problems. You can check this by opening the door...

    Car dies when stopping

Update: Had a new battery and a tender put in & have used tender whenever car is parked without driving it for more than a day. After 7 days of driving (various days), it died again sitting at a stoplight in neutral. The Viper tech could not reproduce the problem since it is so...

    Car dies when stopping

Update: Car died this week while warm just sitting at a light in neutral (only 1 of several times I have driven the car since the last time it died). I took it into our local Viper Tech and he checked the codes, battery, oxygen sensor, et al. and found no codes and no problems. I am thinking of...

    Car dies when stopping

Update: Car has run fine the past 3 days, so I am not going to do anything about it for now. Jack B was correct in that the tach on a Viper starts at 500 RPM, so my car is idling correctly around 650 RPM. I do wish I knew what caused the problem, so I'll look into buying a scan tool and...

    Car dies when stopping

I removed, cleaned (already fairly clean), and replaced the idle air valve and still see the same problem. The plugs are good and as I mentioned before, the battery is essentially new and I have had a dead battery so I am familiar with its "tricks". I talked to my Viper mechanic and mentioned...

    Car dies when stopping

It has a 6 month old battery in it. I don't think I got much water on it as I didn't open the hood. The car has less than 15,000 miles on it. I'll check the Idle air valve & plugs.

    Car dies when stopping

I started the car today and drove it a block to a stop sign. When I pushed in the clutch, the car died and it took a lot more cranking than normal to restart. It then almost died a couple of more times on the drive to work. The idle would hang around zero for a while and then move to about...

    Still the car unlocks itself

I had this happen and it was the microswitch on the door opener that was bad, i.e. the switch behind the button you press to open the door. After replacing it, no problems. The other possibility would be crimped wires where the wires go from the door into the car proper, although I haven't...

Is my engine running too hot?

That's how mine runs too. I only saw it go a little over that when I had the famous timing chain cover gasket failure. When I run it in parades on the 4th it goes near the middle mark location you mention.

Lost a door speaker? Door button inop? How to fix your door loom wiring.

Re: Lost a door speaker? Door button inop? How to fix your door loom wiring Both times my door failed both myself and the tech thought it would be this problem, but neither one was. The first time the door latch was jamming and the second time the microswitch for the door open button failed...

    hole in overflow bottle

First thing I did when I bought the car was to put a much shortened bolt into that location which is essentially flush with that panel. It cannot punch a hole in the overflow bottle.

Top 10 Tips to Driving the Viper?

As per red98RT10, noises to get used to are: 1. Neutral Gear Rattle - occurs with clutch in or out - can be partially fixed with correct transmission oil replacement 2. Car runs rough in idle, as my wife says, like it is really ready to go 3. Steering changes at low speed make more noise than...

    Replacement floor mats?

Try http://www.usspeedonline.com/page/U/PROD/LM-VIPER. They will not roll up and are a great price. I don't think they are as well made as the more expensive mats indicated in the previous postings.
