OK newbie question: I'm close to choosing a Viper & joining y'all. I'm considering a 99 and a 2000. What are all of the differences between the two years, mechanical, etc. To a newbie like me, they seem identical. Thanks very much & I can't wait to really join the viper group.

Dave.

Let's see... The 2000 added a deeper oil pan, cast pistons instead of forged, the first ~200 had powder coated cylinders (or pistons or both, I don't remember which), a milder cam?, can't think of anything else right off the bat.

Just a few differences that I can think of:

2000 engine management refinement that yields a smoother idle and little or no neutral gear rattle from the transmission. I believe the cam may also have a slightly different grind.

2000 has cast and not forged pistons which some find disconcerting.

2000 ACR has a revised shock set-up that does not rattle as did the 1999.

I'm sure many others will build on this response .........

Changes made with the 2000's vs. the 99's, largely as listed above:

Different cam (smoother)
Different pistons (Hypereutectic cast vs. forged - supposedly 38% stronger)
Different rings (tighter clearance/tolerances)
Different connecting rods
Different cylinder sleeves on first +/-200 2000's (powdered metallic entirely, not coated)
ACR's got different adjustable shocks

2000 also introduced "steel gray" as a one-year-only color. Silver was a 1998/99 color, while both years shared red and black.

I think that is about it!
