:usa: DC Performance is proud to announce that we are finishing our collaboration with AEM on the first "Stand Alone" engine management system for the Viper. This will be the most comprehensive engine management system available for the Viper. A must for high HP applications! :2tu:

AEM's Plug & Play Engine Management System (EMS) will forever change the way you look at and perform fuel injection tuning! This user-programmable system plugs directly into a vehicle's factory ECU harness and requires no additional wiring or hardware.* Windows™-based software (2000, NT, 98, 95, ME) makes the task of copying, viewing and manipulating data as simple as a click of the mouse. User-defined templates are easily configurable and enable tuners to establish "quick keys" to any pertinent information during the tuning process. The AEM EMS's infinitely adjustable software allows tuners to program virtually any combination of engine control, power adders and auxiliary devices, and accurately deliver proper amounts of fuel and correct ignition timing for ANY boost level or operating condition.

Basic EMS System Features:

-Plug & Play - No changes to vehicle wiring required
-Uses all Factory Sensors
-Fuel Table Automapping
-Startup Calibrations Included
-Programmable Traction Control
-Onboard 512kb Data Logger
-10 Cyl Sequential Fuel Injection
-16 General Purpose Outputs
-7 Definable Switch Inputs
-Electronic Boost Control
-Soft Cut Rev Limiters
-2 Step Launch Control with Anti Lag Feature
-Wet or Dry Nitrous Control
-Definable Knock Control
-Full Idle Control
-4 EGT Inputs with Fuel Control
-16/32 Hybrid High Speed Processor

Features specific to Viper System:

-Covers all model years from 1996 - 2002
-Requires no changes to vehicle wiring or hardware
-Includes fully functional alternator voltage regulator circuit
-Includes specific software and circuitry to control tachometer and speedometer
-Includes on-board 2 channel 0-5V Wideband UEGO controller with sensors
-Billet machined aluminum housing installs in factory location and is sealed from engine environment
-5 channel high current ignition drivers included for use with OEM coils
-Pressure compensated startup calibration allows installation of turbo/supercharger with very little changes to base fuel calibration

Our one time only introductory price on this product is the lowest AEM will allow it to be sold for. The system list for $3,937. Due to our involvement with the development of this product and a passion to get it to the market, we will be able to offer the system at a Pre-order introductory price of $2,835. This offer only applies to pre-orders of the first production run. Remember, if you buy from us we offer you the technical support you need. We will be the first to tune these units. First production units will arrive mid-April.
This offer ends on May 1st and later orders will reflect non-introductory pricing.

We will update you on our tuning results and results as they are available. We will be tuning a normally aspirated application on the engine dyno next week.

I noticed a mention of knock control - to my knowledge, there are no knock sensors on the Viper - does the AEM also include knock sensors?

Also, wide-band O2 sensors need more wires than stock, how does this "plug and play?" Is there a separate O2 sesnsor wiring harness?

Finally, for factory ABS-equipped cars, does this perform traction control on a plug and play basis?

Keith,

The AEM system supports knock control. However it does not come with knock sensors. AEM does have generic knock sensors you can use. If knock control is desired, it can be configured by the user.

The wide band O2 sensors go in the stock location, come with their own wiring harness and plug directly into the computer.

The traction control function is plug and play for all models (even ABS). It comes with only a base setting for a stock engine, for higher hp or special applications it will need to be reconfigured.

For the knock sensors, has anyone actually tried knock control on the Viper to confirm that it works properly (many cars have too much mechanical noise to work correctly) and where do you physically attach the sensors (this can be very significant and affect their performance and I'd like to avoid trial & error, since error under boost can be bad)?

Thanks,

Keith,

You can set the knock sensor voltage table relative to rpm where anything above the preset voltage is considered knock. You can also control the rate of fuel enrichment and ignition retard relative to the intensity of the voltage spike above the preset table value.

But it is up to you to determine what is normal noise and what constitutes knock based on knock sensor voltage.

The knock control works only as good as you set it up to be, since all the parameters are almost infinitely adjustable. Properly setup, it works very well.

Dan, Can you elaborate on: "Pressure compensated startup calibration allows installation of turbo/supercharger with very little changes to base fuel calibration"

Also, who is: Garrett D. Traub....never heard of him and he wants $$$.

Tony,
The system will be setup to tune forced induction systems with a boost reference. I will e-mail you more information on this.
Garrett does our sales and shipping, he will be taking deposits on the units.

Monday, we will spend the day tuning a normally aspirated engine on the engine dyno. I will let you know the results.

Keith,

The Supra has been utilizing the AEM for 2 years now, but the Viper is still awaiting the release. ;)

Tony,

Basically AEM has created a table referred to as "Boost Correct" where the graph is a linear line from 0kpa-XXXkpa(depends on MAP sensor used). In theory when going from 0kpa(0 vacuum) to 100kpa(14.5psi of boost), the engine will use 100% more fuel. Therefore this table is setup in a linear fashion with 100% enrichment at 100kpa, 200% enrichment at 200kpa, etc. This in turn takes the main fuel table and essentially turns it into a VE table and is treated as a 2D table as opposed to a 3D table(as viewed). Basically making tuning boost 10 times easier with more accuracy and consistency.

AEM EMS Application List:

Dodge Viper 1996-02 Coming Soon $2123.00

I found this surfing the web. Is this the same unit ?

Looks like people are going to keep pricing well below List for this device if this is an indication.

Just curious.

I do not think that the AEM system mentioned is this unit. We are offering the lowest allowable price and the price mentioned is below dealer cost.

The tuning should be done by someone familiar with the AEM system . We will be tuning this system in shop and will provide technical support to all those we sell to. We will also provide owners with a list of those qualified to tune the system.

We did some engine dynamometer testing and found a considerable amount of power over the stock PCM. We will be doing a fine tune on this motor and I will give you the results (stock PCM compared to AEM). This is a normally aspirated engine.

The big gains will be on supercharged and NOX engines where you will really be able to dial in the fuel and timing trim.

Dan,
Since you are working directly with them...Are these systems ready to ship yet? Have they talked about an SRT application? Have you got a list price on the EMS? I didn't feel like calling and bugging them:)
Thanks!

Our introductory price still stands for pre-orders. Our results have been very good on a naturally aspirated engine (one on a stock 1997 and on a modified engine on the engine dyno). This system is going to shine on highly modified engines. I have orders from customers with twin turbos and high boost supercharger cars. We will be using the system on a
14psi system in the near future. The fact that we will be able to tune in real time with lots of resolution is what's going to make this setup the best. A lot of tuners will be using this system, keep an eye out for the results.

Dan,

Since these are "preproduction" units, after production units come out, can they be swapped/upgraded to the production units ??

Jon

These are NOT pre production units, just pre orders. AEM only has 5 preproduction units, and the only difference is the case they are enclosed in. And all those are in test vehicles right now.

Dan,

Does this unit give up any stock functionality or is it 100% upside?
