I have a thread on this on another Viper Forum. I thought it might be helpful for the members on this forum as well….in case there’s interest.

I recently ended up finishing the installation of an Android based double DIN Stereo in my Viper.

Below is some information to help other members who might be interested in installing this unit.

BELOW IS A LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED TO BUY
-------------------------------------------------------------

1) XTRONS Stereo:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/112440217167

The model is ICE/HU/PB68WRJP

You can also buy the unit from them directly if you prefer. I ordered it on eBay and got it delivered in about 3 to 4 days from Hong Kong.

2) Metra 70-6502 Radio Wiring Harness

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002BESGE..._6TvaBbZT5H120

3) Antenna adapters (a combination of two cables) from XTRONS.

These two adapters are 13-116 +13-014 for the antenna.

http://xtrons.com/iso-aerial-antenna...-chrysler.html

4) Bondo (to fill in the panel), JB Weld for Plastics (I think it is called PlasticWeld). There is also a Bondo for fiberglass. I used a combination of all three at various times of cutting, filing, grinding, sanding, polishing, priming and painting.

5) 3M Sandpaper (various grits; from 120 to 2000)

6) Primer and Paint (Rust-Oleum Flat black is what worked the best for me)

You can buy the above the items from Home Depot or your local hardware store.

This is how it looked before:

STEREO REMOVAL
-------------------------------

Start with the following video from one of the forum members. This shows step-by-step how to change the interior LEDs. You can watch it until the point where you see how to take out the stereo. Great video!!

Now that you have your stereo out, you will see something like this….

Be very careful not to destroy the original stereo mounting holes (the guy who was going to do it all ended up doing just that. It was a royal pain in the ass to reconstruct that and be able to line everything up straight).

Since I had to shave off the brackets that were part of the stereo to be able to fit it in, I needed to make new brackets. I experimented with a few different ones. You will need to improvise a bit here and see what can you use to make it work. Here is a close-up of what mine looked like. Though not pretty but it is sturdy and holds the stereo in place real good:

Install the stereo with four screws:

Here is some information on the connections and the wiring diagrams. I hope it helps:

I ran extended USB cables to the center console so that I can use the USB ports for charging or if I ever needed to use the wired connections for Android Auto functionality (there is an app called EasyConnection that allows you to do that).

Here are a few pictures:

This is factory without the USB connectors:

The pictures below show the installation of the USB port:

You will need to remove the center console. For that you will need to use the back panel first where the subwoofer is installed.

I am hoping that the above information will help you get all the connections sorted out. I also installed the backup camera. Just make sure all the connections work.

The next step is to work on the panel.

This is how the original panel looked like before any cutting:

Next, you will need to fill in the sides (left and right) and cut the top and bottom parts.

Do a test fit first before a final paint coat to make sure you are happy with how the panel fits around the stereo and any gaps between the stereo and the panel itself are to your satisfaction.

Turn it all on and test again to make sure everything works:

Good luck with your installation if you decide to go this route.

Here is why I chose this stereo:

1. It has sort of a factory look with buttons and knobs on both sides. Gives it some character. I like it better than plain screens.

2. The size is just right even though it was a very tight fit. It is not too overwhelming. The good thing is that while the screen is double DIN the back was single DIN which gives you plenty of room for the cables and connectors.

3. It is running the latest version of Android (Oreo/8.0) and it has Google Play!! So the functionality is great... Sky is the limit here.

4. The screen is capacitive and is just as good if not better than the big brand names ( I checked them all before settling on this one and they didn't have these features or the look).

5. It has WiFi which allows me to tether to my Smartphone and now i have a "Connected Car"!

6. I have all of my email accounts setup, full internet and even YouTube (which plays videos even while in motion). I stream all of my music.

7. I have Torque App installed and connected through Bluetooth using the OBD II Port which connects to the car's ECU. This way i can monitor and log everything that's going on in real time.

8. The unit boots up with a custom Viper logo :)

9. It has 3 USB ports. I have run two of them to the center console and can connect my phone for charging or connect a 4G dongle (but I use tethering for that).

10. It gives you Apple/Android Auto functionality, either cabled up or through WiFi.

11. It has SD card ports.

12. It also has a CD/DVD player.

13. I also have a 1080 HD backup camera connected to it which is really cool!

14. And finally the sound!! It is connected to the factory amp (the stereo, on its own, has a 50 Watts/channel for 5 channels). With the setup I have, the sound is quadrupled and is crystal clear!! I was also able to retain all warning tones, car alerts, etc.

Getting a message from the system that "the message was too long and it couldn't be processed". It is not allowing me to edit/delete anything either. As you would notice issues with some pictures and there are some links that it couldn't parse.

I've asked you on the other forums about the vents lol. Thanks for sharing. Love the vents! You should make these and sell them, I'd happily buy them from you lol. Can you share what year Audi the vents came from? looks like an early model TT?

Sorry, I just logged in after a very long time.

I bought them on ebay. They're cheap.

Don't remember the exact year but yes they were from some early model TT. Great quality! If you search on ebay, you'd find plenty of these.
