I have a slight split on the lower part of the front bumper from left to right,Its not all the way through so thought it might be able to be plastic welded rather than a new front.....

You can only see it if you sqeeze the bottom section together but just a repaint will not fix it as the paint will just crack..
Many thanks

Hi, Leslie. As I recall, when we toured the factory in 2001...AND ASC where the body panels were being painted...our ASC guide told the group that they painted all panels EXCEPT the nose and rear fascias...stating that they were a different compound (polyurethane as stated above ???) and were painted by another company. Interestingly, one of your fellow IN/KY members just had his nose repainted by a local body shop...and, with minimal trauma, the paint is peeling off.

Some member here MUST know the answer to your question...and, I will be very interested as well. Good hunting !!!

yes it's polyurethane and plastic welding doesn't work very well with this, 3M and others make a 2 part repair material, that adhears well, sound like it could be v groved and feathered, try and keep the repair are small and you could just blend the paint on the bottom and not refinish the entire bumper,

that way you could retain the original paint, a body shop with a lift would be nice this way ther's no disasembly
again I only mean this for a small repair on the bottom.
A quality body shop is a must.

Keep in Mind, after the OEM bumper has been redone twice....When its #3, its time to get a new one. They don't hold up well after 2 times of being redone.

Your local body shop should be able to guide you. I've had my front bumper fixed from a curb rash incident that caused an abrasion hole in it. I don't even remember where it is now unless I look at it from the inside.

As noted above, the proper amount of flex additive in the paint is a necessity - I had to get my redone even though it was done by a fellow Viper owner's shop that is experienced in that sort of painting.
