I have been having some intermittent drivability issues and finally figured it out. I don't have access to a factory repair manual so i just went old school and dug through forums. I was able to source the factory diagnostic tree from a Viper tech at a local dealership in Denver. He is fantastic but was unable to share specific data on component testing. My struggle is your gain. I did all the functional tests i could and ended up removing the cam sensor & oil control valve. The cam sensor is located at the rear/under of the intake manifold in the middle. It is secured with a 10mm bolt. To access the cam sensor you will need to remove the wiper arms and the left side cowl. If you have really small hands and more patience than I do, have at it! The oil control valve (variable cam timing control valve) is located in the front/under the intake manifold. I removed the airbox, driver side TBI and emissions hose assembly attached to the bottom of the intake manifold behind the TBI's. I did clean & lubricate them both before removal to keep dirt etc from falling into the engine. I have the diag tree attached in PDF format, I will attach a link to see the full video i made if the diag as well as pictures of the new component & testing. I have replaced the cam sensor with the oil control valve (cam sensor was annoying to get to so I figure, why not) and so far so good!
I hope this helps the next guy with cam/performance codes or problems.
Spec on a new OE oil control valve #5037796AB is 8 ohms resistance.
