So on my 02 gts after my car is spotless I go for a run and come back home and walk by the back of the car and it's covered in little black specs all over the back o the car like crazy. I'm guessing it's waster fuel that when gearing down, it gets back drafted up all over the back bumper and taillights area. I'm not sure if maby my tune is running to rich from Dan lesser, mods are kn filters smooth tubes, msd wires, new plugs, borla exhaust, cats removed, sct tuner with a tune from Dan lesser! I'm wondering I'd maby a different tune would fix this?? I never tried putting it back to stock!!

I think the leading cause is the cat removal. Doubt you could fix it entirely with a tune, and if so you really don't want to lean it out a ton, right? Those of us who blow lots of carbon onto the rear just live with it and wash often.

I'm betting that you would get your best answer from Dan; but, since you opened it up to general discussion, I'd say that the factory settings are generally very rich, in order to protect the engine. I've heard that most "tunes" tend to go leaner. I'm assuming that Dan knew of your cat-delete when he provided the tune? And, yes, my car did the same thing without cats, as would be expected. If it bothers you, try the Random Tech high flow cats. The sound is still great, IMHO, and I don't think that you could detect the performance difference without two identical cars, driven side by side. (At least, I didn't.)

Cats removed. Duh. Their purpose is to destroy the unburned hydrocarbons that exit the combustion chambers as exhaust fumes, and you've chosen to delete that feature. Now you need to learn to live with that choice by having great engine sound and a stinky dirty car.

BTW, ScratchX will remove the spots.

Welcome to the cat-less world. If you let it go too long, you'll have yellowish stain on rear bumper. (not sure the color of your car though)
When I switched to 3.33 rear gear from 3.73, the stain/soot problem decreased dramatically. (I assume because of the lower RPM's at normal driving)

Check the rubber plugs in the rear facia area. If they have fallen out or are missing, the exhaust fumes will get pulled back into the cockpit of the car. I am catless on my RT, I really don't smell much, but the people behind me do................

Whilst repairing my exhaust leak ('nuther story), I found leaks in the 3" tube going into the resonator as well as a few fine cracks in the front of resonator. That is right under side sill next to seat. I think a lot of my cockpit fumes are coming from that.

My stock engine w/no cats does soot up a bit more. Normal (see Dave's post ^).

On a bright note, my ride just passed emissions!...... Time to swap back to the catless setup.

Cheers!

When I had rear slipjoint / clamped exhaust I would get smells in the cabin. I figure the windows down create a low pressure in the cabin due to a venturi effect, and the tumbling high pressure air at the rear of the car comes in via the rear cabin exhausters. Plus, the leaky slipjoints didn't help.

When I went to side exhaust and a fully welded the system, me gets no smells no more. Can't imagine a no cat smell, as I've had them both with my rear and side exhausts.
