Gen 2 License Plate Frame Fitment

Wanting to get a vanity plate and also change the dealer-supplied license plate frame. I purchased one to try out, and it doesn't fit in the gap where the frame sits... It's a regular 12x6, which is supposed to be universal, but seems too tall. Has anyone else had issues like this, or do I need to jam it in there? Worried about it scratching, especially if 12x6 just isn't supposed to fit on the Viper, which would make the effort and potential scratches pointless.

While living in NY I carried the rubber temporary license plate holder but kept it in the passenger floor. The one n only time I got pulled over for plate it just so happened I just left car wash n took it off forgot to put back. Wink wink living in Florida now it’s no longer an issue
