Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a Viper RT/10 Red with black.

I was mainly looking at 2002 only because I was worried about the arrow rebuild. I am assuming that the 2002 did not need the arrow rebuild, but I could be wrong. Reading the board, I know arrow done a great job and the engine comes back stronger than ever. But still would like to know.

How many of you with 2000 had the arrow rebuild?

How many with 2001 had the Arrow rebuild?

How many with 2002 had the arrow rebuild?

If there are not too many arrow rebuilds on 2000 or 2001, then I would consider purchasing one. Any help and feedback appreciated.

You can feel free to e-mail me directly at [email protected] if you don't want to post your comments here.

Hmmm, someone clue us in here, but I believe only a small % of all years ended up at Arrow. I guessing <10% are Arrow rebuilds, maybe less than 5% (1 in 20). What do you other guys think?

Some folks actually believe an Arrow rebuild may be a good sign, as they do seem to come back a bit stronger. Not sure what prompted this, but there were not that many of any of these years that went back to Arrow. There were some in 2000 that went back due to a new type of cylinder liner, but many of those never made it( back to Arrow that is) ,as the problem was getting them broken in properly and many seemed to seat fine. I would worry more about finding a quality car, and then proceeding from there with your concerns. Look towards Dealers that work with these cars alot or Viper owners, and have a tech look over the car if one is close by. We put every car on a lift for a full visual, and it is good to ask about the underside of the car, besides checking the traditional maintenance questions. Good luck and happy hunting.

My '00 GTS had the Arrow rebuild due to the cylinder sleeve issue that Bill mentioned above. As I understand it the first 200 cars built in model year '00 have these sleeves. The problem is that the powdered metal used in the sleeves is much harder than the normal cylinder liners and in some cases did not allow the rings to seat properly. Such cars have an issue with excessive oil consumption (mine used 4 quarts in 1600 miles).

I have no complaints about the Arrow rebuild - after break-in the car runs alot stronger than it did before the rebuild.

As a side note, I've heard of at least three other black/silver '00 GTSs with this same issue. Is is possible they build the run of black/silver Vipers first in model year 2000?
