Brake discs are rusting.......

My motor is at Arrow being rebuilt, I had the car towed back to my home to store in the garage while work is being done. It has been about 4 weeks since the car has been driven and when I looked at her today I saw rust (dust) particals on all four brake discs. Is this normal? Is there something I should do or will the dealer address it when the motor goes back in? I am in So. Calif. so not much humidity, it's just a scary sight. Also, anybody know any cool things to do to the motor or engine compartment while the motor is out? Be it cosmetic or performance.

All brakes do this from time to time if they set for awhile. They will be ok once you start back driving it.

Personally I'd Zaino your rotors....also helps prevent heat buildup...use some Z5 then Z6 then clay bar them!!! Whatta difference - especially when stopping!

Frank, Thanks for the tip ... I already had the Zaino, but had to run out to get some additional white towels made in USA. As soon as I got back, I started the Zaino process .. boy were those rotors HOT! It was melting through clay bars like butter!

I have not tested yet as I need to wait for my burns to heal ... but I'll let you know ...

Moisture just from the air will cause the steel rotors to lightly surface rust. The stock pads contain small fillings of metal. If your handbrake is left on it will rust itself to the rear discs! Will come unstuck as you get rollin', you'll hear them rub a little, lightly dab the brakes to remove the surface rust.

There was an aftermarket brake upgrade offering aluminum based rotors (lighter).
