I had my 97 B&W GTS on the rack And looking underneath the car. I can see that the people who built and put together my car in Detroit. Signed their initials, and dated it. Which is the same as the build date. There was even a smiley face on one of them. The initials were on the transmission casing, rear diff. and bottem of the engine. I guess it was a 3 man team per car. Anyone have this same thing? Anyhow I thought that was kind of cool...

take plenty of pictures to document how things were done.

That is exactly right!!!

If in the case this car is ever "found" in a barn in 30 years under a tarp.... (not saying this current owner won't still have it, but...) if that would ever happen, those photo's would be the only way to show what the car was like the day it rolled off the line at the factory.

The Viper is so young in the life span of cars, i.e. the corvette, - sorry, but with 50 some years of the vette vs. the 12/13 odd years of the Viper, we are "young" in the USA Exotic or Muscle (your choice) car hobby.

We don't know what or where the Viper History will be or how it will have been written in 30 years. So... (long winded - aka - tired fingers) If those pic's were in the "glove box" or even slid under the carpet for someone to find in 30 years... That detail for a restoration would send the points on detail through the roof if it were ever to be a show entry.

I know.... To each, His own! Anyway, for what it's worth... even if it's nothing.

P.S. I had a 97 B&W GTS. The Hottest and Best color Viper EVER, Hands Down!!!! Sure miss Her!

Damn I took pictures of my RT/10 while it was being built at each station on the line. Darn near every angle, most of the workers and all. I know several others that did that as well. :)

There are initials all over the car. Some from the assembly people, some from the engineers, etc.

Now my SRT seems devoid of such team spirit indicators

In a way yes. If you were in the plant back in the early days the enthusiasm of everyone involved was just incredible. Every worker wanted to do his or her best to make each car as good as it could be. You can see this in their desire to "autograph" their work.

That changed a few years back, and no it was not due in any way to the Gen III. Time has a way of taking its toll on things. And there is something to owning a car that you know the people that built it cared about it as much as you do.
