What are the repair options for the small crumbled nicks in the ceramic side-sills? I tried a search but did not find much. Who/where have people gone and what is the general cost. Can these be filled and painted by a good body shop? Thanks.

I just painted mine with regular auto paint, (GEN II). Not sure about the side of GEN I. If these are steel/aluminum, they will probably work fine with some high temp.

PM sent..

True enough, a rookie I am. But I'll have to check it again. I am pretty good at touch-ups on minor paint scratches and dings. Where the sidesills have the scalloping is where I encountered some powdering/flaking that went a few millimeters deep (startled, of course, I quickly stopped). I do appreciate your time and input. I'll reexamine them.
Thanks.

Well, it may indeed be ceramic. As you indicate it was a white powder that would be aluminum oxide, which I believe is classified as a ceramic.

A few millimeters deep??? I doubt that is possible as the thickness is less than a mm to begin with. Are you sure you have stock aluminum sills, or the aftermarket fiberglass ones.

Okay, maybe a couple mm, certainly a white powder. I did not know how deep this ultimately went, as I did not venture further. I was unsure if this is something I could have a good body shop take care of, or if it required a specialty shop.

Tampa,

Shoot over a PM...I may have some expoxy primer laying around. If it is corrosion, a good cleaning, prep, and EP. should give a good base for paint.
