check engine light

took car out tonight for quick trip.
start up car after dropping of gf and check engine light came on. check under hood nothing obvious.

drove home, car running fine no issues but light still on.
never had any problems with car.
any ideas?
guess an engine code reader is on my agenda for tomorrow.
2000 rt/10 smooth tubes k+ n's, aftermarket exhaust, rear **** delete.

I bet its an O2 sensor. Very common but easy to replace.

Could be anything need to hook it up to a scanner and find the answer.

Check the gas cap! Last summer the wife called me and said the Check engine light was on in the Mountaineer. When I got home I verified the light was on. Didn't have a scanner so I went and bought one. Ran test, looked up the code. solution, reinstall gas cap. Went out opened the gas cap door and found the gas cap was just sitting in place. The last thing she did before coming home was fill it up... could be just the gas cap or maybe not, but it won't cost a thing to find out.
