Folks,

Am about to leave on a roadtrip and need to top off the clutch fluid of my 94.
The shop manual recommends brake fluid which meets DOT 3 specification.
All I can find in the local shops around here is 5.1 specification. I assume it is OK to use the higher spec fluid. Correct ?

NO - Dot 5.1 is not compatible with DOT 3 or 4. Benefits of Dot 5.1 is that it is synthetic and will not absorb moisture and will not eat paint. Drawback is that it will give a soft pedal feel under hard work.

Get Motul 600RBF Dot4. $10 per bottle. Bleed your brakes and use the leftover to replace clutch. Turkey baster, **** out refill, drive, do again.

If you are going on a trip and don't have time, use the best Dot4 they have and replace with Motul when you get home.

Motul also makes 5.1 but do not buy it either...get the 600RBF 4.0. Usually found at motorcycle shops so order it online if you can't find it.
