Hey folks, as some may know I just bought an 02GTS FE. I have been reading alot of threads that tell me my engine is called a cream-puff. That in it's self kinda *****. However, I would like to know what exactly that means, other than the simple fact that I have cast pistons instead of forged. Does this mean I can never put a blower on? Why do pre-2000 gts's get 50hp from exhaust and I only get 5hp? An in depth explanation of the cream puff, and it's capabilities, or lack there of, would be really helpful.

Let's put it this way. Forged pistons cost around $1100 to upgrade in '00 to '02 Vipers. ABS costs around $7000 to upgrade in pre '01 Vipers. What ***** now? ;) Cream-puff's can take up to around 650 HP. I was told this by Paxton when I inquired about supercharging my FE. Tbe Paxton kit will give you about 620 HP, so you are OK.

In terms of exhaust, over the years Dodge improved the exhaust on the snakes. This is why there is a difference in performance increase when changing exhaust in earlier and later model snakes.

I feel better, thanks man. Because of the exhaust improvements, did earlier models have less hp? or did the cam and piston swap balance out the exhaust increase.

No problem. I believe it all balanced out. All GEN II's are rated at 450 HP and 490 lb/ft. torque at the flywheel. However, some people claim that some years show a little more HP on the dyno. Fact of the matter is it is much easier to mod your engine than install ABS. Nearly any tuner can mod your engine, where I believe there is only one or two manufacturers that make and install the ABS upgrade. It is hard to find as well as quite costly to install. For around the same price of the ABS upgrade you can install aftermarket heads, pistons, roller rockers, etc. and have a much stronger and powerful engine as well as ABS. :headbang:

Just out of curiosity, what are the years people say have had the best dyno?

People say the best years on the dyno are usually the years that they have. ;) It is well-known that the red with white stripe paint scheme adds about 50 RWHP alone. :p

On a more serious note, I have heard people say that the "lumpy-cam" '99's produce the most power where as I believe I read yesterday that someone claimed '00's produce the best power. Since these are hand-built cars, the performance will vary slightly from car to car no matter what year it is.
