A seventeen year old with daddy's supercharged Harley Davidson Ford truck decided to show me how he can lose control when he gets on it. We are at a stop light, in town (35 MPH posted), on a four lane street with center devider. He takes off hard from the stop light but then slows as he sees I'm not engaging. When I get beside him (I'm at aprox 40 MPH)he gets on it hard again but loses control and crosses into my lane and in front of me. The drivers front connects with his pass rear. The road is slick from the weather and we both go sliding sideways down the road. We ended up on a grass section infront of a gas station. The viper did take a hard hit as it went up the square 6 inch concrete curb. How bad is it?

That kid is going to take a dump when he sees the estimate. I'd say north of 30K.

Insist on new parts. When I got my estimate they said they could repair the scratches on the rear bumper. I said "Nope, I want a new bumber. Put it in the estimate."

Once you insist on a NEW hood and NEW fascia, the dad is gonna kill the little twerp! Just the hood and fascia is enough to make any grown man cry when they see the $$$. You might have a fight on your hands since we all know (for the most part) that insurance companies (along with the airlines) are the new LEGALIZED form of organized crime. They KNOW the RIGHT thing to do, but bust their collective asps to make you settle for less. Remain adamant and insist, insist, insist.

Lastly, I hope you didn't shrug off a police report.

You better have the wheels, suspension, frame checked real good too if you jumped a 6" curb sideways.

Please tell me you go in this kids face and put the fear of God in him.. I would be so angry..

I really don't think it looks that bad. If you wanted, you could get by with A LOT less than what ppl are saying.

I no longer live in Minnesota but Louisiana. To add insult ot injury, we both got charged with "careless operation" which is: Any person operating a motor vehicle on the public roads of this state shall drive in a careful and prudent manner, so as not to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person.

Here are some more pics for your viewing entertainment.

Whole new ball game. Get a lawyer.

I second, but you said in the first post that you were doing about 40 in a posted 35 area, and the roads were weather affected. That would be considered driving too fast for conditions, or "careless operation".
Did the cop write on the ticket the specific reason for the ticket? He may have had another reason, like the kid saying you both were 'playing'?
My sister, when she was 19/20ish, was driving down the road at posted speed(45) and got rearended by a truck(1500), causing her to hit her friend, who was driving in front of her. The truck's insurance paid for my sisters rear to be fixed(no pun), but she was ticketed for 'following to close', and her insurance had to pay for her friends car. My sister had to pay for her front(didn't have full coverage).
Get a lawyer and fight.
Good luck.

My buddy with the same year car ran over a trailer hitch and cost almost 8K in wheel,facia/undercarrage damage.I'd agree between 25-30k if your gonna do it right.
PS.JOHN B at parts rack talked with INS people and helped out.Don't let the local body shop and INS handle it alone with Viper experience!
Might be an opportunity to upgrade!

Kids wanting to race a Viper on the street is not unusual. If a cop sees a Viper pulling away from a light (normal acceleration) and a Ricer or such (burning rubber along side), he (the cop) is gonna assume both cars are racing. To avoid this potential unfortunate situation, I keep my concealed handgun license and badge in the Viper. When the fart cans line up at a light, I show them the hardware and listen to the rpm's drop. Works well with bikes on the freeway also. :usa:

There are a 1 or 2 good shops in Louisiana but I have all my special work done in Biloxi at a shop I trust.
Also dont feel bad. I got rear ended on I-10 by a full sized truck and pushed into the other lane in front of an 18 wheeler and I got a ticket for changing lanes and causing an accident The ticket cost me about $500. Also they said I was responsible for the 18 wheelers damage not the A hole that hit me. OF course $100 dolars of that was contemt of court for telling the judge F.U. after telling me I should have had better control of my car.

I did this one time with two guys in a SL500, back when I had my mustang. I had a car full of Sh*t due to the fact I was moving. I didn't feel like playing and these two wouldn't leave me the hek alone. I just through the wallet up on the dash and watched the passenger of the Merc. tell his buddy (driver) "cop..." something or the other.....he must of fell back 10+car lengths in a second or two. Funny as hell. ;)

Careless operation was the only sitation received. He received the same, so the officewr said. When I get the scene photos developed, I'll post them. The Harley Ford Truck mowed over a fire hydrant, completely breaking it off.

Wow......I would be pissed to no avail. At least you are okay and it could be worse. I would fight the ticket as you did no wrong. Hopefully, you can get it all fixed up to your liking.

If you weren't speeding I'd start by contacting the police department in the jurisdiction where the ticket was written and file a formal complaint with city, the issuing officers sergeant and then with the city manager if possible. I'd also get an attorney and fight the ticket with a jury trial and not with a judicial hearing.

I'd be vociferous about it. Cops screw up too, and they need to be held accountable for it when they do. I'll be damned before I'd put up with being written a ticket for no good reason.
